Random Music Talk XLV: In which we form a punk rock band

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I'm getting a big kick out of watching Cockplay fans fight in the designated thread.

Clearly this album is not going to be the overwhelming, unequivocal masterpiece people were delusionally hoping for.

Sounds exactly like the response to every U2 album for decades!

Wait. Laz doesn't like Coldplay? Why has he never brought this up before?

The album does suck though.

So do most recent U2 albums.

Imps, finally finished wave 50 after you left last night. Still took a number of tries though.

My freaking copy of M83 is still in the exact same place it was yesterday afternoon. Sometimes I have having tracking available, as it just pisses me off.

It only took Coldplay 2 albums to gain a level of popularity that it arguably took U2 5 albums to gain, so there's that difference too.

Out of all the "bland" and "vanilla" artists in the world, what is it about Coldplay that incites so much rage in Laz? By definition, those adjectives would liken something to being completely inoffensive. But he's downright livid. If they're that white bread, why pay them any mind at all? Consider all the innocuous pop bands currently working. Why Coldplay?

Good. But I'm glad I left when I did.

Much as I resent the fairly-bland VWilcock being held up as some kind of indie torchbearers, it disturbs me that such a ball-less, soulless, personality-less band are the current champ of modern rock. This is the generation's answer to Shuttlecock, Nirvana, Guns 'n' Roses, even Oasis?

Honestly, can you name another giant band that was so un-iconic?

"Cruel," bro.

Speaking of which, I'll take "things that probably shouldn't be tacked on the wall when I'm using the restroom" for $400:

Other than that, the Washed Out show was a lot of fun.

Recent former job to Mrs. Tourist: "You have $XXXX money worth of stock options with us!"
Mrs. Tourist: "Awesome! I'd like to cash it out!"
Recent former job of Mrs. Tourist: "If you cash it out now, you can have 15% of that amount!"

Something about this transaction makes me want to invest in flamethrowers.

Alright, we had that half way through the year thread. What were everyone's favorite albums from July till now? What did I potentially miss?

Since July I've enjoyed the albums by Real Estate, M83, Trash Talk, Youth Lagoon, Wolves In The Throne Room, St. Vincent, Girls, The Field, The War on Drugs, Kanye/Jay-Z, Washed Out, John Maus, and AraabMuzik.

War On Drugs, Stephen Malkmus, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Feist, Wild Flag, St. Vincent, Steven Wilson, Wilco, John Maus (good call, GAF), Dum Dum Girls, The Field and M83 have all put out really great albums in the past couple months. And Tom Waits will soon enough.

Haven't heard the new Real Estate record yet. Or Justice, for that matter.

Alright Peef 'n Broccoli. Here's a lot of stuff I've enjoyed since late June or whenever, although some may have come out before with me just late to notice. I'm fairly sure this is all stuff I didn't share in the half year thread.

Balam Acab - Wander/Wonder
Clams Casino - Rainforest
Dum Dum Girls - Only in Dreams
Eleanor Friedberger - Last Summer
elite gymnastics - Ruin 1 & 2
Feist - Metals
Keep Shelly in Athens - In Love With Dusk
Lana Del Rey - "Video Games" b/w "Blue Jeans"
Lisa Hannigan - Passenger
M83 - Hurry Up We're Dreaming
Moonface - Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I'd Hoped
Purity Ring - "Belispeak"
Sbtrkt - s/t
SLEEP ∞ OVER - Forever
tUnE-YaRdS - w h o k i l l
Wilco - The Whole Love
Youth Lagoon - The Year of Hibernation
Zola Jesus - Conatus

Among others. These just jumped out at me upon first glance through my library. Like LM, I'm also very much looking forward to hearing the new ones from Real Estate and Justice.

So you dug Hurry Up, We're Dreaming from the start, Deputy? That is a hot, hot album. Possibly his best, although it's early to make that call.

Yeah, I ran through the stream four times despite saying I was only going to do it once. That about sums it up.
