Hey Hey What Can I Do should have been on Zeppelin III instead of Hats Off To Roy Harper.

Yeah, probably. Great one.

Best Zeppelin song not on a studio album is "The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair," though.

Fuck, that song cooks. Love it.

Sure, Kissing The Lipless can be tied for the top spot.

Not all that big on Caring Is Creepy, to be honest.

The Shins are one of my favorite bands and they've only grown on me in the meantime, but Caring Is Creepy is still the first song I heard by them (heard Oh Inverted World first; never have seen Garden State). Good memories.

So I've become interested in The Kinks. Where's a good place to start? I know Lance's Mom has quite an encyclopedic knowledge, but she's not returning my phone calls.

I hate to agree with Cobbler on which album to start with, but he actually stumbled onto a good point here: Lola Vs. Powerman is one of their most rocking albums and you would probably like it. Not necessary for Lola though.

I've heard and love that one, but I still haven't heard BBC Sessions all the way through. Maybe I'll fix that over the weekend, I have a 10 page paper to write and need something to distract me.

Damn, it's a tough call between Girl I Love, Travelling Riverside Blues, and Hey Hey. Baby Please Come Home is another great one. I think that the riff in Girl I Love gives it a slight edge, though. Page was just exuding stellar riffs at that time.

Picked up the new Feist and Zola Jesus releases today, also found a few used CDs that were on my list. Yay!

Clever band names and album titles:->

Dire Straits
Machine Gun Fellatio - rolls right off the tongue
Friendly Fires - a very clever band name in an era where band names are bland

Clever Album Titles
Extreme's 1991 album 'Pornograffiti'

keep em coming!

I haven't heard any but since no one else answered I think the general consensus is Village Green Preservation Society is where it's at.

My first will be whichever one has Lola on it though.

Thanks, lads. I'll check it out.

Incidentally, who here has listened to The Who's album A Quick One? I did today and almost died from the sheer awesomeness.

It's an OK album. It's a fun collection of songs, but there's some really useless shit on there. Cobwebs and Strange is pointless, See My Way (penned by Daltrey, of course) is a piece of shit, and there's some pretty generic R&B in there.

On the plus side, So Sad About Us is beautiful, and the title track kicks immense amounts of ass. I might be in the minority, but Disguises is just fucked up enough to have deserved a spot on the album; it's on the remaster instead. I'm not saying it's a good song, but if they wanted something weird, it beats Cobwebs. If Boris The Spider isn't weird enough, that is. That's another winner.

I know I've already mentioned this twice in the vinyl thread, but I'm gonna go ahead and mention it again because hell, I GOT THE WALL ON VINYL and this is a great day for me. And it sounds great. And it is great. And I feel great. This is great. I love this album so much. I know it's divisive, and I know I'll never fully be able to comprehend why, but for just a moment, I figured I'd go ahead and repeat for the ten bajillionth time that I fucking love this album.

/cobbler.

The Wall's good. No arguing that.

(Animals on vinyl would of course be the winner for me, but I haven't had much luck finding that cheap.)

No need for the /. This would be a much better forum if people posted like that more often.

Still my least favourite Floyd album of the five I own, but yeah it's still good, there's no debate to be had about that.

I got to the Barbara Ann cover and totally lost it. I couldn't stop giggling, especially when I remembered that this is the same band that wrote Tommy, Who's Next, and Quadrophenia. And the Batman theme cover and the Katrina And The Waves cover...I invented a word to describe it. Mod-tarded. It's Mod and it's retarded. But so much win.

Yay! :hyper: I should post the fangirl rambling I did over getting American Idiot on vinyl in an email to a friend. You all could blackmail me for the rest of my life if I did, though...:hmm:

You absolutely have to listen to the remaster to understand what was going through their heads at the time. It's a pretty average album when you remove the bonus shit, but with it? WTF defined.

Ditto The Who Sell Out btw. There are so many fun commercials in the bonus tracks, although I think the album is brilliant on its own.

I think I'll get that one next, along with that Kinks rec. I bet the other people in the lunch room at work were wondering what the hell I was laughing at. I have to listen to the last five or six tracks but it's quickly become a favourite. Entwhistle's death metal growls.

Just felt like messin' with you :). I'm not sure the world needs more hyper Ashley though.

Haha awesome. I'm so dang happy right now. I think this may even call for bumping this up to either my 3rd or 4th album ever. I can't decide which I like most, Achtung, JT or The Wall (2, 3 and 4 respectfully (yes, my three favorite albums ever are U2 albums :uhoh: )).

I would just like to confirm, after a second listen, that "Mr. Know It All" is as bad as my first impression suggested. I can't even handle this.

Can you guys recommend me something that sounds like the rock songs on Heroes? I don't know how I would describe that...I guess angular guitar riffs with a touch of glam, and an icy aesthetic? Sounds like fun post-punk, but I'm not sure that exists outside of Television or Magazine.
