Where did I say that I was some arbiter of quality? I was just questioning your claim that KMKMKM is somehow a better entry route than Disintegration. And I find it both specious and odd that you so often fall back on critics and other external measures rather than making your own argument about why you think something is superior. Don't you ever feel just a little boring that your opinions always seem to - need to? - align with some vague critical consensus? For a person who's one of the most distinctive personalities on this forum, you build up your opinions in such a bland way..

They don't need to align. But otherwise, it's just my opinion against yours, which cancels out, doesn't it?

And you didn't merely say that KMKMKM wasn't a better entry point. You called it mediocre. Ashley implied it was there worst album (as if anyone who thinks Wild Mood Swings is better should be trusted). Me saying NO IT'S NOT doesn't exactly solve anything. Pointing out that many critics at the time and today lauded it, fans love it, and then quoting a very well-written defense that I agree with doesn't mean I'm avoiding sharing my opinion.

I'd rather have a discussion about why it's a mediocre entry point than encounter a brick wall of "these critics rate it highly so it MUST be a good starting place". And I'm still a little amused you reached for Amazon reviews when those are barely more reliable than YouTube comments.

I am surprised, though, by Ashley's comment. I really don't see how it's worse than The Top or Wild Mood Swings.

you guys should acknowledge that your "opinions" are highly subjective and it's fine that people have different views, alright?

Wild Mood Swings is a rough, rough album. I struggle to think of another band that declined so quickly.

Liam Gallagher's debut solo single is laughably formulaic. Two verses and three choruses. Not saying that we should have expected anything different (or that there's anything inherently wrong with that formula) it's just such an especially cookie-cutter rock track.

I feel like I have a long enough history of hating kmkmkm for this to surprise no one at this point. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone as an entry point because the only thing I really care about when it comes to music is my own opinion, or, the opinion of people who have generally steered me right, musically, over the years.

I honestly can't remember if I've heard sheer heart attack. I have it in my head that I love the album, but I could be confused.

Actually, to be honest, I'm not sure I've heard you talk much about KMKMKM. You'd really rank it below The Top and Wild Mood Swings?

The top is my second favorite cure album some days.

But yes, I hate kmkmkm. And I've tried to like it.

We've been chatting about the cure for like 9 years. I'm shocked you didn't know this already.

Oh I knew you had some affection for The Top, but second?!

I'm glad I don't look like the only contrarian now.

I always think I like it more than I actually do when I sit down and listen to it, but there's enough of my favorite songs on there to have it unquestionably in my top 5.

There's not much of an order after Disentigration, to be honest. Pornography, Head on the Door, Bloodflowers, and the Top somewhere after that.

2017 music is a B&C wet dream. Broken Social Scene, Los Campesinos!, Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, The War on Drugs, The National, Kendrick Lamar, Spoon, all in the same fucking year. Insane.

Also, Lorde's second single sucked fucking balls but Perfect Places, the newest one, is sensational. I think the record is going to be awesome.

Not to mention Phoenix, Grizzly Bear and Fleet Foxes

Dirty Projectors too, another B&C favorite, although it has flown under the radar this year.

St. Vincent, possibly. And I have hopes for a new Beck album.

Can't wait for the Best Of thread at the end of the year.

It's been a good year for indie rock, definitely.

Too bad hip hop has been so mediocre. Kendrick is carrying the year with DAMN.
