Came across this interesting little list today. I still haven't heard of most of these bands, but there are some good ones on here.

Zoo TV really sticks out there. The recent parade of shit support acts has a long history. Hell, even by Popmart they got Smash Mouth - Smash Mouth! - to support them, and some of their eighties supports are really fucking questionable too.

I think if David Sims is going to reform a band, it's gotta be The Jesus Lizard, though. Right?

Still pissed off the Jesus Lizard cancelled on ATP: Release the Bats in Melbourne last year.

If you got lucky on what shows you went to, you could get at least one decent to great band - Mission of Burma, Comsat Angels, and the Zoo TV acts stand out. Einsturzende Neubauten supporting a U2 show?! Awesome.

But it's a good example of why support acts generally don't work, either for genre or quality differences.

Gotta say, I'm really digging Goat at the moment - that combination of rock solid rhythm section and complete weirdness in the melodic side is really neat. The riff to Monkey Trick, say - damned near impossible to play, but it sounds so cool, and apparently very worked out, unlike a lot of post-punk riffs.

There's a good series of interviews about The Jesus Lizard on a podcast called Kreative Kontrol, if you haven't heard them, Ax - the host is just okay, and the questions are identical, but hearing the differences in responses is really neato.
