Bond films got sort of funny in time. Spy Who Loved Me wasn't particularly funny though.

It's the 10th Bond film, more of a reference than a wise crack... too bad this wasn't part XII, For Your Eyes Only could have made a better title.

I thought I opened Lemonade Stand Archive by mistake

I would rather look at a 70s Bond movie title for 4 months,
than Part 10, 'Deathly Hallows' still crying Dobby dead..

Oh shit, I didn't know about the Nutcracker movie. That kind of looks cool. Have to go check that one out.

Your edit makes my reply make no sense! Also, Deathly Hallows 1 is Part 7, that would be silly!

But now that you mention it, RIP Dobby .

Ordering's a bit preposterous in places, but it's to be expected with this sort of polling. Disappointing to see Poetry earn a spot, but Hahaha to be left off entirely though. And Film Socialisme that high? Naaaaaah.

Saw that today, disappointed that I've only gotten to see The Social Network from that list.

Enter the Void, I Am Love, Dogtooth, Winter's Bone, Exit Through the Gift Shop, A Prophet, Carlos and Another Year are ones I have a realistic chance of catching by year end. We'll see.

This title sucks, by the way.

I've seen 8. I Am Love is on instant. I'll get to it this before year's end. Gift Shop and Ghost Writer are readily available, so I might check them out too. So is A Prophet but I've been warned away from that one. Many of the others I'm itching to see once I get a chance.

I've got Celine and Julie, Duelle and Noroit downloaded and ready to go. Also his second to last film The Dutchess of Langeais is on instant, so I might watch that out of sheer convenience. I plan to start viewings tomorrow with Celine and Julie.

I didn't get too much of out The Duchess of Langeais (and I prefer the European title, Don't Touch The Axe); perhaps I need to check it out again at some point. I bought a copy of Balzac's book The History of the Thirteen so I could familiarize myself with the source material, as it was also a big influence on Out 1.

Definitely watch the others first.

Also, surprised to see you didn't see The Ghost Writer yet, of course this is coming from a guy who loves Fincher and still hasn't made it to The Social Network.

Perhaps I'll hold off on Dutchess then. Also the only copies of Out 1 I can seem to find are of utterly unwatchable quality. How did you manage to see it? Or did you just grin and bear it?

I'm not ahuge Polanski fan, but I heard great things about Ghost Writer. I'll get around to it. Seems like the kind of thing that will go on netflix instant eventually. Really surprised you haven't seen The Social Network by now. I'm sure you'll get to it before awards time?

and I will add that A Prophet is a damn good movie.

No, they're not unwatchable. Some brave soul created new english subtitles that are in bold and are easily visible over the burned-in ones (I'm pretty sure the only version floating around is from Italian television).

The thing was shot on 16mm for the most part so I don't think it looked great anyway. I didn't bother projecting it because of the quality but I watched it on a decent size television.

Believe me, it's worth it. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Criterion or someone to put it out.

The one that I would say is unwatchable is L'Amour Fou. That one had very faded pre-existing subs that I couldn't read and just gave up.

Re: Social Network, yeah, just waiting for it to get to the cheap theatre. White Material is playing at the arthouse so hopefully it will still be there next weekend.

Is what I'm looking at. Eh.

I'm not sure why being shot on 16mm itself should qualify something as not looking great to begin with either.

That above shot is way worse than what I have. Are those from two different sources? The bottom looks about right, but the subs should be very clear. File sizes are under or around 700 megs each, correct?

Let me grab a screencap:

It's a murky image, but I wouldn't call it unwatchable. As with Céline and Julie, the film's merit isn't in its visuals but in the narrative form and the editing.

I mention the 16mm just to illustrate what the original print was. I'm aware that you can have good photography in any format, but you know, it isn't going to look as crisp as 35mm.

Ah. I grabbed those from KG. They are each from a different part of the film. I'll have to look for the one you have there.

Celine and Julie is a fine quality, and from the little I browsed through the visual aesthetic still seems rather precise and appealing to my tastes. Duelle is looks beautiful.

And yeah, I get you. Fair enough. I've read there's only one existing film print of Out 1 out there anyway, so it's not a surprising situation.

Actually, the Spy Who Loved Me is my second favorite Bond movie after "For your eyes only". I LOVED the character of Jaws and the pairing of Moore and Bach gave us one of the better Bond films.

Speaking of that list, anyone know release date/distributor status for Of Gods and Men in the United States??

Normally I don't listen to the soundtrack before the film comes out, but this Tron score is fucking phenomenal. It's like if Vangelis and Hans Zimmer (when he gives a shit) decided to work together. The "Overture" alone makes it worth it.

That sounds awesome. I am not going to listen to it until after I see the movie, but I get more excited each day.

In other news: Finally time to watch Twin Peaks.

Listening to this now. It's pompous, silly, dizzying, iconic.... yeah kind of phenomenal.

What opinions? It's a great film for those with a strong stomach, and an absolutely incredible ending. I know some people thought Boyle's kinetic style didn't suit the material, but I thought the way the camera work/tripping-out/flashback sequences were done it really forced you to imagine yourself in Ralston's shoes in several scenarios, not the least of which was the amputation obviously. And Franco gives the performance of the year for me.
