One thing that struck me about many people's lists is how musical tastes in Rock have converged. When I was a kid you identified yourself with either New Wave, Mod, Hard Rock Punk, Hard Core, Funk, etc., but most people did not listen to a mix of different rock genres....and there would be "rumbles" between the different fans. For example if you were a fan of the Smiths you'd never dream of listening (or at least admitting it) to Zeppelin, and if you were into Metal you wouldn't be listening to R.E.M or New Order. On most of these, lists there's a great mix of classic rock, punk, pop, alternative etc. I'm a huge G'N'R fan, but I'll also listen to the Cure and Oasis on the same playlist. I guess Rock just..well, rocks!
