Last round, Bittersweet Me was eliminated.

Votes:

Bittersweet Me - 5
Low Desert - 3
The Wake-Up Bomb - 2
So Fast, So Numb - 2
How the West Was Won and Where It Got Us - 1
Leave - 1
Binky The Doormat - 1

I hate Wake-Up Bomb with the fiery passion of a thousand burning suns, buuuuut...I like double eliminations even more. I'll be saving my vote.

Bomb, but it's so tough to choose...I love this album like a an unborn child that is destined for greatness. I'm not really sure what that means.

Poor result voting out Bittersweet last round. Low Desert is resoundingly average, got that bullshit American swagger that sounds anything but genuine. Quite horribly forced

Poor Low Desert.

Indeed.

it happened fast, it's over quick.
a little dust and the engine kicks.
did your hands drift down off the wheel?
a roadowl hit your windshield?
an eyelash or a little bit of sleep?
did time stand still?
just call it. now, and you're on your way.

hey
hey hey
hey

all the ashtrays cities and the freeway drives
broken casinos and waterslides
the 18 wheeler and the payback dives
gravity pulls on the powerlines.
a jetstream cuts the desert sky,
this land could eat a man alive.
let's say you'd leave it all behind.

hey
hey hey
hey

"tricked again." let go.

there's a radio tower, it's egging you on.
back to the place where you never belonged.
where the people thrive on their own contempt.
whatever meaning is long gone spent.
if you had to guess or make bet,
would you place yourself inside of it?
the mountains yawn. the clouds let out a sigh.
"tricked again." let go. okay.

hey
hey hey
hey

Personal choices to go forward:

Undertow (one of my favorites since I heard them play it on the Monster tour)
Be Mine (Thom Yorke chose THIS song to sing with Peter, Mike, and Bill. SOARING guitar work)
E-Bow the Letter (lyrical brilliance + Patti Smith = WIN)
New Test Leper (not really new territory but a very well-written song)

Be Mine (Thom Yorke chose THIS song to sing with Peter, Mike, and Bill.
nevertheless a great song though

for me:
E-Bow
Be mine
Leave
How the west was won ...

though I wouldn't mind Undertow and New Test Lepper as #3 and 4 either

Never paid much attention to the lyrics and only enjoyed the song musically. But now that I did, they're as brilliant as the music!

Having driven and spent time in the Arizona, Nevada and So. Calif desert, the lyrics of Low Desert have always really resonated with me as well.

Great song! Although there are still 6 or 7 that I like more on this album. This really was R.E.M.'s last great record.
