Question about DVD players for a novice

Are there DVD players that record (like a VCR does from TV) and also plays normal DVD's and CD's??

I have seen players, and I have seen recorders, but not one that does both. Do they exist?

They do exist, but the actual players cost around $2000, and each recordable DVD is around $25. Alternatively, you could get a DVD-R for your computer, which is around $800, but the media is still expensive, and there's a standards war brewing (DVD-R vs DVD-RAM vs DVD+RW). Don't waste your money on one, unless you're filthy rich. A better bet is to just buy a regular DVD player and either a VCR or a Tivo unit.
