Just outta curiousity, who are you all rooting for? and who do you think will win, or at least get deep within the playoffs?

I'd like to see the USA do at least respectable this time. I know they don't really have a shot to win it, but even getting to the second round this time would be an improvement.

Other than that, Japan could be a sleeper, especially being the host nation. Among the major teams, I'll be rooting for Germany.

Of course I'll support China, but I doubt it'll actually get any points in its group...

besides that then I'm all for Ireland.

Among all those 'favourites', I like France the most and IMO it has a stronger team then it was in 98 and 00. (well... that is if there aren't anymore injuries for it)

Being from USA - it's hard not to cheer for them - but the true fun will be watching group F and G! I have a good feeling we will see some magic come from one of those two groups.

Two from each group qualify for the last 16, then it is a straight knockout right to the final.

I don't think France will win it as they are too old now. I think Argentina must be favourites, and Brazil for some reason could do really well although they are rather crap at present.

However, if one of Germany, Spain or Italy don't get to the final, I shall be very surprised. They are in the easy half of the draw.

Other things to look out for: possible quarter-final places for Cameroon and Japan and Portugal doing really well.

As for England and Ireland, they won't do at all well.

my guesses are

A - France, Uruguay
B - Spain, Paraguay
C - Brazil China
D - Poland Portugal
E - Germany Cameroon
F - Argentina England
G - Italy Croatia
H - Russia Belgium

And semifinal lineup would contain argentina, italy, england, france

and argentina or france winning it

I contributed to a pool at work and these were my picks:

1. France
2. Argentina (bleck!)
3. Italy
4. Brazil

...Although something tells me Portugal may do quite well! (providing Figo is playing of course!)

Good Lord, England, Argentina *and* Nigeria all in the same pool?

and the Swedes!

I honestly think it could turn out to be one of the tougher/est groupings in several Cups.

Even with injuries...the pride of England will come thru and they will go magnificently until the they get knocked out in the final stages!
