grrrrrrrrr....I hate those "pop up ads" or whatever they're called....when you open a website, and about 20 other windows with ads open up and you can't get rid of them, and you end up closing the website you were viewing accidentally and can't get rid of the ads!!! grrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep. Most of them are on-line casinos or porn sites or hidden cameras.

Sometimes my dad could see the monitor and then those annoying things pops up. And I have to close them as fast as possible because if my dad saw that, that would be so embarrassing...

Well... you CAN get rid of them, you just need a good browser :p
Mozilla and Opera are 2 browsers that have the option to disable the pop-ups. You can download them at http://www.mozilla.org or http://www.opera.com Both browsers are free (although Opera has a banner in the upper-right corner). AFAIK, when installing the browsers the pop-up block isn't checked automatically so you manually have to check them. For Mozilla this is:
Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Scripts & Windows -> (Uncheck Open unrequested windows)
For Opera you have to go to:
File -> Quick Preferences -> (Select Refuse pop-up windows)

Have fun with them!

C ya!

P.S. Both browsers also support tabbed browsing, a great feature! (This means you can open different tabs in the same window, instead of your taskbar getting cluttered by many windows for each site)

Strange, while I was reading this thread a pop-up window appeared! They really are annoying. I'm not even on the web sometimes and they pop up.

By the way...

Does anyone else occasionally get those horrible pop-ups where they maximize beyond normal and you cannot close them (there just isn't the option, period) and you have to reboot your computer to get rid of them? Right-clicking on the toolbar to select "Close" like with normal IE windows doesn't work, either. It really pisses me off.

Yes I've had that happen to me several times, what I do is hit the ctrl button and the letter w at the same time. This will close any web related crap on your screen.

Yes that happens to me too! I really hate the one with the grinning old man's head that says 'function not permitted' when you try to close it! I click on it and then click close and sometimes that works but you shouldn't have to mess with that! I really HATE the really detailed graphic ones like the minicam that take so long to load and show up, and on a computer that's not real fast like mine it just takes forever to wait for something you don't even want just so you can x it out- they won't x out until they materialize, at least not for me. They really slow my system down and make things so much harder!Grrrrrr! :madspit:

My email I use utilizes pop-up ads. I don't mind those because I'm used to them. But other pop-ups just piss me off.

YES!!!! I think I had about 20 of those last night which is why I got all mad and posted this about the stupid pop up ads. Some of them have the "close this window" thing at the bottom, but that doesnt even work half the time, and it seems like sometimes, whenever you try to close one, a new one pops up! grrrr!

I think I am going to have to go with the flock here and say that popups are not good. I know I am all about originality.
