Pitchforks top 100 albums of the 90's

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I suppose if I needed horses I would click on that link, no?

Anyway it's pretty easy to guess what would be in the top 10 at least

probably #1 will be OK Computer, and we might expect 'In The Aeroplane Over The Sea' somewhere, as well as perhaps a Pavement album or two, or maybe even Sebadoh and Belle & Sebastian.

Wow, yertle. You're in fine form this morning.

Not that I expect anyone to care ;) , but I own eight of the albums from 100-20:

Trompe Le Monde - Pixies
Maxinquaye - Tricky
Last Splash - Breeders
De La Soul Is Dead - De La Soul
Dummy - Portishead
Automatic for the People - R.E.M.
Bossanova - Pixies
Homogenic - Bjork

I'd be interested to see how many of the top 20 I have.

I care!

I also have 8 but I think I'll have a few in the top 20. I have:

95. Mezzanine - Massive Attack

62. Selected Ambient Works 85-92- Aphex Twin
52. Rid of Me - PJ Harvey
49. Bone Machine - Tom Waits
43. Automatic for the People- REM
21. Homogenic - Bjork

Here's their top 20 from their original list of top 100 at the end of the 90's (I have only 6 of these--my collection is missing some great stuff):

20. Grace - Jeff Buckley
19. Jawbox - For Your Own Special Sweetheart
18. Bjork - Homogenic
17. Walt Mink - El Producto
16. Beastie Boys - Check Your Head
15. Sunny Day Real Estate - How It Feels to Be Something On

03. Pavement - Slanted and Enchanted
02. Radiohead - OK Computer
01. My Bloody Valentine - Loveless

Awww....you always care, joyful!

Some of those from the original list really fell a long way out of the top 20. I expect I'll have at least of couple of the new top 20. We shall see... :hmm:

I love when little (and fairly unknown) gems somehow work there way into lists like this. Walt Mink was a good band...not great (IMO). Great local band maybe. But worthy of a top twenty? Neigh (a livestock reference).

I have a fun/embarrassing story about Walt Mink. I am an nerd though.

Where is ACHTUNG BABY?

exactly. :|
I don't know what they're thinking by not including this album. I know this sounds biased coming from an obvious U2 fan, but I genuinely believe that the album belongs SOMEWHERE within the top 100. I mean, my god, that album was a huge musical step forward; it proved to be one of the most influential albums of the decade. It's a classic!

some critics just love to shun U2. I think they get off on it...
:madspit:

 for Pavement (X2), Radiohead, My Bloody Valentine, Nirvana.

I like the old list better, only because I think Loveless is better than OK Computer. :reject:

And I think Slanted and Enchanted is better than both of them :reject: :reject:

Alrighty. I've got four of the top twenty.

Siamese Dream- Smashing Pumpkins
The Bends - Radiohead
Nevermind - Nirvana
OK Computer - Radiohead

I gotta agree that OK Computer is tops, but I certainly think I own some other 90s albums that are pretty damn good compared to some of the one on pitchfork's list, including Achtung Baby for sure.

They're wrong. The top 10 should be:

Smashing Pumpkins-Siamese Dream
REM-Automatic For The People
Radiohead-The Bends
The Wonder Stuff-Never Loved Elvis
Suede-Suede
Grant Lee Buffalo-Mighty Joe Moon
Jellyfish-Spilt Milk
The Boo Radleys-Giant Steps
Paul Weller-Wildwood
U2-Achtung Baby

I have 8 of the top 20, one of which is Neutral Milk Hotel, which I like but would not even make my top 50, let alone top 5. In fact none of the ones I own would make my top 20 except Radiohead.
