Howdy there peoples, we have just decided over in the Pink Floyd thread to hold a Pink Floyd Best Song Survivor, starting early next week. There is enough support to well, support it, with the thread now standing at over 400 replies and over 30 posters in the thread as well. This competition will be a good one, as there is no clear winner in the Floyd catalogue, so it will be very interesting. The other benefit is that a lot of the Floyd’s songs are quite lengthy, and so therefore some albums are shorter in terms of songs, meaning we won’t be here for a year. As far as I know there were no others planned, we had someone from the Radiohead contingent outline there was no Radiohead survivor in planning (Lemel said he wanted ‘dibs’ on a Radiohead survivor next). So here’s the plan, enjoy, discuss any issues, whatever in this thread. :)

Summer '68 for the win!

... I'm being serious too.

OK, I'm gonna have to study up -- I know very little from the first 7 albums before Dark Side.

But I love that song See Emily Play.

Have we ever done an R.E.M. song survivor? They have a good long catalog full of hits.

Fair concept, but I'm not a hardcore fan, I'd prefer Gin Blossom survivor.

There would have to be more than 3 songs for that though.

Floyd song survivor, cool.

The winner should be Sheep.

I totally used Sheep for an English paper the other day; it was glorious.

Well looks there's enough support, so that's great. Couple of questions... get it started after the Beatles comp has finished or just start next week? And polls open for one or two days?

And I reckon we could very well see Radiohead, REM, David Bowie and more competitions beginning down the track.

One day for the polls or it will take forever.

How about people just pick their Top 3 of each album, then go from there. It'll eliminate a lot of filler (songs on The Wall) and get to the nitty-gritty faster.

I don't have a top 3 for anything before DSOTM. <laughs>

With the impending release of IN RAINBOWS, wouldn't this be the most apparopriate time for Radiohead Survivor?

It'd make the most sense to do it sooner rather than later, and aren't their more Radiohead fans than Pink Floyders on 'ere anyway?

It's probably around the same.

Personally, I'd like to see this:

Bowie
Floyd
Radiohead
R.E.M.
Bruce
Wilco

if we're doing Interland favorites.

This is not a bad idea.
