Sure, Cassadaga. I listened to it again recently and it has grown on me. The songs I love, I love quite a bit. Lime Tree especially.

I did have it a little high to begin with, though, so I corrected that.

I also added something I forgot.

That's two revisions already after posting it. This is why I'm not good at lists.

haha, I was kidding about giving you a hard time, I was sure you would give me an even harder time for adding Easy Tiger to me list

ranking the top 3 songs for an album was hard enough, I didn't even rank albums in order, I copped out an alphabetized it
:reject:

Impy, I know you're a huge Okervivialsidsnbfjdjdnd River fan, I've read many good things 'bout them, what's a good starting album?

rilo kiley - silver lining

a song that will boost your mood on any kind of day!

on a more serious note:

UNKLE - Burn my Shadow - featuring ian astbury formerly of The Cult

how has everyone missed that song?!?!?!?!

Here are my top albums of the year

1. The National-Boxer

I can't remember an album coming out having so much of an impact on me in my lifetime. Although no knockout tracks like Mr. November, an incredibly consistent album.
Notable Tracks:
1. Slow Show
2. Squalor Victoria
3. Guest Room

2. Radiohead-In Rainbows

Another excellent collection of songs from the best band of our era.
Notable Tracks:
1. Reckoner

3. The Arcade Fire-Neon Bible

Not as good as Funeral, but not a disappointment by any means.
Notable Tracks:
1. Ocean of Noise

4. Broken Social Scene Presents Kevin Drew-Spirit If...

Just about as good as Broken Social Scene's s/t
Notable Tracks:
1. Lucky Ones
2. Bodhi Sappy Weekend

5. Okkervil River-The Stage Names

An excellent follow-up to Black Sheep Boy. Not as much raw energy and passion as the predecessor, but it makes up for it with depth and maturity.
Notable Tracks:
1. Unless it Kicks

6. Animal Collective-Strawberry Jam

This is Animal Collective finally hitting the right balance of experimentation and pop. Their strongest effort to date.
Notable Tracks:
1. Cuckoo Cuckoo
2. Winter Wonderland
3. Fireworks

7. Akron/Family-Love is Simple

This is freak-folk at it's best.
Notable Tracks:
1. Ed is a Portal

8. Sunset Rubdown-Random Spirit Lover

Sunset Rubdown is the side-project for Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade, but this is 10 times better than any Wolf Parade album
Notable Tracks:
1. Stallion

9. Leaves in the River-Sea Wolf

The best album of the year nobody has talked about.
Notable Tracks:
1. You're a Wolf

10. Elvis Perkins-Ash Wednesday

The best folk singer/songwriter album of the year.
Notable Tracks:
1. While You Were Sleeping

11. Stars of the Lid-Stars of the Lid and Their Refinement of the Decline

Although I don't usually listen to ambient music, this is a beautiful album that is incredibly relaxing to listen to.
Notable Tracks:
1. Dopamine Clouds over Craven Cottage
2. December Hunting for Vegetarian Fuckface

12. Iron and Wine-The Shepherd's Dog

The group finally finds the perfect balance with their low-fi folk sound and instrumentation
Notable Tracks:
1. Pagan Angel and a Borrowed Car
2. Carousel

Favorite albums alphabetical by artist, 3 key tracks from each:

Ryan Adams - "Easy Tiger"
-"Oh My God, Whatever, etc", "Two", "Goodnight Rose"
Bloc Party - "A Weekend in the City"
-"I Still Remember", "Song for Clay", "Uniform"
Bruce Springsteen - "Magic"
-"Magic", "Long Walk Home", "Radio Nowhere"
Foo Fighters - "Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace"
-"Long Road to Ruin", "But, Honestly", "The Pretender"
The Frames - "The Cost"
-"The Cost", "Sad Songs", "True"
Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova - "Once"/"The Swell Season"
-"Falling Slowly", "Lies", "Mind's Made Up"
The National - "Boxer"
-"Apartment Story", "Start a War", "Fake Empire"
Radiohead - "In Rainbows"
-"Jigsaw Falling into Place", "15 Step", "All I Need"
The Shins - "Wincing the Night Away"
-"Turn on Me", "Phantom Limb", "A Comet Appears"
Eddie Vedder - "Into the Wild"
-"Rise", "Society", "Guranteed"
Kanye West - "Graduation"
-"Tell Me Nothing", "Stronger", "Homecoming"

Favorite tracks not on those albums:

Snow Patrol - "Signal Fire"
Chris Cornell - "Arms Around Your Love"
UNKLE - "Chemistry"
Clint Mansell - "Dead Reckoning"
Arctic Monkeys - "D is for Dangerous"
The Killers - "Tranquilize"
Paul McCartney - "Ever Present Past"/"End of the End"
Spoon - "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb"

I'm away from my computer, there's way more tracks I should include. But Signal Fire

1. Radiohead, In Rainbows

Making music on a level so much higher than everyone else, this doesn't even have to be close to their best to take this spot. Disappointment at what could have been is really beside the point when you're given riches like this to plunder. All I need, personally.

2. LCD Soundsystem, Sound of Silver

Neck and neck with Neon Bible until rainbows strafed the skies, I think seeing them live (ironically, with Arcade Fire) put them ahead. Murphy's energy on record and stage is contagious. A breath of fresh air, it's 80's nostalgic (something I usually hate, but New Order-esque is an exception) and cutting edge at the same time.

3. The Arcade Fire, Neon Bible

Not much to say here. I was more into it when it came out, but it's still a great piece a work and proof that they've got the goods. Nothing unexpected, but that's not a crime.

4. Super Furry Animals, Hey Venus

See above re: Radiohead's pwnage of all else. I prefered the grandeur and sophistication of the last album, but this one is an easier and perhaps more pleasurable listen.

5. Amy Winehouse, Back to Black

Every time I think maybe I'm overrating this I listen to it again and am reminded of the bizarre juxtaposition of her out-of-this-world voice and the rawness of her lyrics. She's the real thing, even if her lifestyle prevents her from being the next Madonna, Courtney Love, whoever. Hopefully she'll be more productive than Lauryn Hill.

6. Spoon, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

I felt Gimme Fiction was possibly Spoon's best work to date, so it was hard not to be a little disappointed by what seems like a bit more off-the-cuff and less ambitious album. I'm a little bewildered at all the critical attention because I don't think it's even close to their best work. But none of the songs are bad, most are great, and after the break-up of Sleater-Kinney I'd say they're the best band in America right now...because unlike Wilco, these guys know how to dance.

7. Bjork, Volta

I'm not going back to this one very often, but it's such an amazing comeback from the boring depths plumbed by Medulla and Vespertine, I'm just glad to have the loud and crazy Bjork back. It's definitely no Homogenic or Post, but it's close enough. Genius is genius.

8. Okkervill River, The Stage Names

I came pretty late to this one, and I've only heard it like 5 times, but I'm liking it so much with each successive listen I can't NOT put it on here. It's nice to see how much praise this is getting.

9. Bruce Springsteen, Magic

I still think The Rising is better. But this one is more E-Street so it's an easy pleaser. The problem is with a shorter album the clunkers stand out a bit more. The best tracks are among the best he's ever done, and that says a lot. Still in Dylan's shadow 30 years on, though, perhaps unable to give us another late-in-the-game masterpiece.

10. Kanye West, Graduation

I feel like I'm listening to this more on the radio than at home, but the amount of cuts getting airplay shows that it has just as many hooks as Late Registration. I prefer Jon Brion + Kanye to dabblin' wit' Daft Punk, though, and this is probably his most consistent, but least impressive album so far. It's still Top 10 because he ain't messin' with no broke broke.

11. The White Stripes, Icky Thump

I wanted this to make the top 10, but it didn't. Maybe by next year it will be. A hell of a lot of fun, even if it's more of a de-stijlation of the last few albums than any kind of new thing. Of course, for a classicist like Jack, he probably doesn't mind.

Also:

Arctic Monkeys, Your Favorite Nightmare
Neil Young, Chrome Dreams II
Kings of Leon, Because of the Times
Midnight Movies, Lion the Girl
Cansei de Ser Sexy (2006)
Band of Horses, Cease to Begin

Agreed. It's great, but honestly I think their previous 3 are all as strong (and probably more consistant) than Ga Ga Ga Ga. Still good though. I guess critics and fans jumping the bandwagon late is better than never...

I kinda feel the same way about The National too.

You know, I've felt Kill The Moonlight was overrated since it came out. I've tried to get more into it several times, but I just find it the least enjoyable of all their albums, and that includes Telephono.

Of course, Pitchfork likes it the best; go figure.

I disagree. Gimme Fiction was great, but had no focus whatsoever, and its hit-to-miss ratio was considerably lower than the likes of Girls Can Tell (which I consider to be arguably their finest effort). I didn't really care much for Kill The Moonlight either, which felt to me like a bunch of great ideas that were just waiting to explode but never did. GaGaGaGaGa is sheer brilliance, simply because there isn't a bad song on it. That's rare enough, but there are no less than 3 songs on the album that I would consider among the best of 2007.

Well, I partially agree. Focus isn't really high on my list with Spoon compared to some other things--they're not really a conceptual band. If you want focus, then Series of Sneaks is the best. I find Ga Ga Ga all over the place too, even though I like everything. Fiction could have lost a track or two, but I think it has higher peaks. I don't think there's anything on GGGGG that's better than Beast & Dragon, Sister Jack, and probably I Summon You.

And I'd say Girls Can Tell is their second best, so I'm right there with you. I can't figure out how people rate Moonlight higher, it was like a de-evolution.

Oh, and I forgot to mention how lousy I felt for making my list without really listening to so many records that I've heard so many great things about. Albums I've either not given enough attention to or not even listened to at all include:

The National - Boxer
Battles - Mirrored
Bjork - Volta
Jay-Z - American Gangster
Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
Panda Bear - Person Pitch
Okkervil River - The Stage Names
Lupe Fiasco - The Cool
Super Furry Animals - Hey! Venus

I forgot to mention Jens Lekman's Night Falls on Kortedala, which isn't in my Top 10, but is a beautiful album.

Joni Mitchell's Shine was also noteworthy but not quite the comeback one would have hoped for. It also could be a grower, which is certainly possible with her work.

Popmatters is going to be putting up their best of lists every day for the next two weeks. Today they put up their list of the best Electronic albums of 2007, pretty decent list.

For the lazy:

9. New Young Pony Club - Fantastic Playroom
