For me it's just dumb luck. Though it seems like for me, the two times when I went pretty far, my plane did a lot of loop-de-loops right around the chimney

To cheat:

Just move your cursor and the plane far left, then more your cursor further left out of the area of the game box.

Move cursor around game box to right side, touch desired point.

Watch plane take off at full speed and, if you know what you're doing, full accuracy.

It is possible to get over 100m using a normal throw though, I've done about 102m.
