Of course, then you have ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER, which was has been performed by

Bob Dylan
U2
Neil Young
Dave Matthews
Jimi Hendrix
and a few others on the tip of my tongue.

I always hear that either "Yesterday" or "Something" is the most covered song ever.

The only covers of "Something" I can think of are by Frank Sinatra and Paul McCartney. I can't even think of a cover of "Yesterday," except John Lennon's joke version ("Yesterday, I'm not half the man I used to be / Because I'm an amputee").

Some band called Gob or something also did a so-so version of "Paint It Black" for some soundtrack. I remember a friend of mine thought it was awesome, but I don't think he was familiar with the original.

 I've grown to HATE this song because of all the covers. A guy named Yul Anderson does a great version of it, though.

i seriously wonder how many people have covered cock sparrer's 'england belongs to me' or 'running riot'...

it seems like everyone and their brother's band has, but i honestly can only think of about 3 or 4 each...

I think the song sung the most is 'Happy Birthday'.

But I think that's in public domain so it doesn't count.

Hmm, this calls for some research!!!! :)

From what I remember, this isn't in public domain yet. The sisters' estate (or the sisters) still holds the cpoyright.

Hmm, you're right. Cheers for that.

Here's the wiki entry:

The melody of "Happy Birthday to You" was written by American sisters Patty and Mildred Hill in 1893 when they were school teachers in Louisville, Kentucky. The verse was originally intended as a classroom greeting entitled "Good Morning to All". The lyrics were copyrighted in 1935, 11 years before Patty's death, and the ownership has swapped hands in multi-million dollar deals ever since; the copyright is currently owned by Time Warner (a subsidiary of which bought the rights in 1988) and is scheduled to expire in 2030. It is not completely certain who wrote the lyrics to "Happy Birthday to You."
