Denzel Washington, if anyone, should be first in line if we will ever get a black James Bond.

I still think Pierce Brosnan was robbed for not being in Casino Royale. He's too old but Sean Connery wasn't when he played Bond years after his first Bond movies in Never say never again?

I never liked Brosnan, to be honest. He always seemed far too much in love with himself and lacked a sense of danger.

Anyway, the reviews are starting to come in for Casino Royale and almost everyone is claiming Craig is the best Bond since Connery, which is quite amusing given the initial backlash.

'Brilliant' Bond seduces critics

Daniel Craig's performance as James Bond has been hailed as "terrific" and "simply brilliant" in early reviews of his 007 debut in Casino Royale.

The first verdicts on Craig - who was a controversial choice to play the spy - have been gushing.

The Daily Mirror said he was seen "oozing the kind of edgy menace that recalls Sean Connery at his best".

And the Daily Telegraph wrote that he "steps with full assuredness into Sean Connery's old handmade shoes".

Connery, who appeared in seven Bond films, was recently voted the best 007 of all time.

Daniel Craig in Casino Royale
The actor has promised a tougher and grittier 007
But when Craig was picked to replace Pierce Brosnan last year, a small band of disapproving fans called for a boycott of Casino Royale.

In the new film, Bond makes a break from the super-slick, stereotyped spy of the past, the UK newspaper critics said - but all declared the end result a triumph.

"It's Bond, but not as we've known it," according to the Telegraph.

"The guns and action are there... the girls are certainly there... but the clonking double entendres of the old days are gone - in their place is a much more teasing, smartly written prospect."

'Unpredictable and vulnerable'

Daniel Craig had a face "like an Easter Island statue" and makes "a terrific debut", it added.

"He manages to exude not only danger and unpredictability and wit - but also, and this is a first, some vulnerability."

The Times declared: "Craig is up there with the best - he combines Sean Connery's athleticism and cocksure swagger with Timothy Dalton's thrilling undercurrent of stone-cold cruelty."

Craig's impressive physique makes him "a far more plausible Bond than many of his predecessors", it added. "But his main asset quickly becomes evident. He can act."

The action was "edgy", the paper said, with stunts that were more physical and violence that was more raw.

The Mirror said the James Bond rule book had been "well and truly torn up" for the 21st official film.

'More human'

"From the start you can tell this isn't your average Bond film," its critic wrote, adding that it was "easily the best film since GoldenEye".

Based on Ian Fleming's first Bond novel, Casino Royale begins with a brutal black-and-white fight scene in a bare bathroom.

Since Craig was chosen, the actor and film-makers have promised a more human and gritty character.

Casino Royale reaches cinemas on 17 November.

I hope all those Connery comparisons don't mean he's copying his way of acting Bond.

 I loved Brosnan. Admiteddly I've seen more Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan Bond movies than Connery's, but to me he was the best.

Yeah, Craig was good in Layer Cake - and the bits I have seen of Casino Royale it looks very 'gritty' and different from the way Brosnan played the role. I am definitely looking forward to seeing Casino Royale.

^lol - I love the comment in the article quoted above about him having a face like an Easter Island statue :giggle:

Admittedly he isn't conventionally great looking, but I dunno there is something very sexy about him.

He got a rave review in my newspaper this morning - saying he was better than Connery.

Brosnan was born to play Bond , it's another matter that storylines were all the same ( babes - end of the world - sexy song - final boss ) , his movies were great , but not as lethal & truespy as Sean Connery's . Brosnan got robbed . he had atleast two more in him . Daniel Graig is a great actor though , best of luck to him

waiting for nov 17th

mmm, no, I don't think Denzel would be appropriate...
I'd like Jamie Foxx better, even if he's not the typical Englishman...

My husband loves Bond Movies, they always put me to sleep. I have to admit though, Casino Royale was great. Daniel Craig has really added some much needed life to a tired franchise. I've read a lot of comments from people saying he's ugly, I disagree. He may not be conventionally handsome, but there is something about him that is just  :combust:
P Diddy/Daddy/Dorky/Whatever needs to take it down the road. Daniel Craig could kick his girly ass.

P Diddy as Bond? It's gotta nice ring to it, huh? My favorite Bond was Roger Moore. I also liked Timothy Dalton, but they only gave him 2 movies to do.

I'd rather Bono as Bond than PShitty...the puffster is just obnoxious IMO.
