Your Reactions??? I think that Memento, Mullholand Drive, and The Man Who Wasn't there, all deserved some nominations for actors, directing, and hell, even best picture!!!

Other than a few of the flicks mentioned above... I think that the majority of films released last year sucked, so I really don't care to much this year.
Though it would be great fun to see Rene win Best Actress! Oooh I hate Nicole... grrrr

LOTR all the way, baby!
biggrin.gif

Guy Pearce should've been up for best acting for Memento tho.

*roots for Russell Crowe to win now*

Surprised not to see "Glitter" for best picture and Mariah carey for best actress.

The joker is the best card.

MOULANA ROUGE!!!!
MOULANA ROUGE!!!!

BETTER FUKING WIN!
BETTER FUKING WIN!

Cause if they dont I swear I will cuss
and march down LA making a fuss
With Pub Crawler strapped nude to the back of the bus

IF THEY DONT WIN!

IF THEY DONT WIN

Yay for Renee!!!!!! I was so surprised to see her nominated!

Otherwise, it was just a repeat from the Golden Globe noms..

LOTR should win at least 10 awards - best film, director, Ian Mcellan, adapted screanplay and all technical stuff...

As every day passes I get more and more opssessed by LOTR and now I'm maybe even a bigger fan of tolkien's than of U2's

go LOTR, go Jackson

Crow or Denzel washington should win the best actor, and I actualy did like Rene in bridget jones

I shall be rooting for Amelie in the Sound and Foreign Film categories. I think it deserves at least one. Memento for editing should do well, too.

Is Ian McKellen really in a supporting role with Gandalf? He's almost a lead. But I guess not.

I want LOTR to win best film but I'm pretty sure it won't.

Marko--I'm pretty sure I'm a bigger fan of Tolkien than of U2, though it's pretty impossible to compare--I can live more easily without music than without books. I'm in the home stretch of something like my twelfth re-reading of the whole LOTR, and it never fails to move me far more than I expect. There are some things movies cannot do that books can.

I don't know how this happened - I wrote the reply but it didn't show up ?!?
What I wanted to say is to scatteroflight is that I can't live wtihout music AND books both. Sometimes months pass by untill I read a book, but music always plays where I am - in my car, my room, my office...
books are always better than movies!
I just finished LOTR books again, and it almost made me cry AGAIN. The best ending ever - SPOILER here - they finish their quest and than you are left with 100 pages of goodbye's and sorrow and joy and earthly little things, things come to pass and boats sail away...

I spend more time reading than listening to music...and when I'm listening to music I'm almost always reading. I could live without music only with the greatest of difficulty, but given the horrible option of choosing between books and music, I would choose books without hesitation.

LOTR always, without fail, makes me cry at the end--and on this rereading I'm discovering all the other bits that make me cry as well.

Only the Fionavar Tapestry so far, and had mixed feelings about it. I heard Tigana was good, though.

I'm picky about fantasy--love it when it's good, but I don't find it's good that often. I really prefer children's fantasy. I have read nothing in the vein of LOTR that really compares to it, for me. A lot of adult fantasies come across as a pale imitation.

I wanted LOTR to get Oscars nods...I thought they would get some Oscar nods but 13?????...but I feel the exact same way I felt when I heard U2s name getting said over and over at the Grammy noms...pleasantly shocked!!!!!!!!

Its a nice feeling.

Ah, the Academy Awards. This is how it SHOULD, according to my opinion, turn out this year.

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Russell Crowe - He's amazing in everything he's in.

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Jim Broadbent - give the man an Oscar, he's superb.

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Nicole Kidman - definately. Though, I thought she would get an oscar nod for THE OTHERS.

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Helen Mirren - Her perfomance in GOSFORD PARK is heartbreaking. She should win.

ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
Shrek - no contest.

ART DIRECTION
MOULIN ROUGE - ofcourse!

CINEMATOGRAPHY
LORD OF THE RINGS - definately.

COSTUME DESIGN
GOSFORD PARK - YES!

DIRECTING
BLACK HAWK DOWN - Ridley Scott DESERVED the oscar last year, I was very VERY pissed off when he didn't get it. He should get it this year.

I actually quite like the nominations this year, but I hope these actually turn out good this year.

Ant.

Lynch got the nomination for Director, but that's a big letdown. Mulholland Drive had the best performance by a woman (Naomi Watts) and was the most entertainingly original movie this past year.

I don't think I'll ever watch these Awards. It's all politics and no substance.

And they are imitaition
Tigana is great, with only one objection but I don't want to go to details
The best form Kay id Lions of All Rassan - you realy should read it, it's even not fantasy as far as I'm concerned (no magic, no dragons and stuff...)
And ofcourse Terry Pratchet - he' hilarious, but you are right fantasy in general is throwaway...
