one of the most heartbreaking songs ever written

Mother, you had me, but I never had you
I wanted you, you didn't want me
So I, I just got to tell you
Goodbye, goodbye

Father, you left me, but I never left you
I needed you, you didn't need me
So I, I just got to tell you
Goodbye, goodbye

Children, don't do what I have done
I couldn't walk and I tried to run
So I, I just got to tell you
Goodbye, goodbye

------------------
so bounce, basketball, bounce

Lennon.

"children don't do what I have done/I couldn't walk but I tried to run" - imagine singing that as a grown man, it is too sad. From the biographies I've read, I get the impression that Lennon was scarred for life because he lost his mother, and maybe that is why he couldn't leave Yoko, cos she was shall we say domineering and so provided him with that strong female figure he needed all his life. He was a child trapped in a man's body.

That is such an emotional song. When listening to it you can feel Lennon's pain in his voice especially on the "Live in NYC" version.

Lennon, McCartney, Madonna, Elvis, Bono...all lost their mothers at a relatively young age (well, Elvis was in his early 20's). Not sure what it means, but it's interesting.

' I want to run
I want to hide
I want to tear down the walls
That hold me inside
I want to reach out
And touch the flame
Where the streets have no name. . .'

Love is...cold steel/Fingers too numb to feel/Squeeze the handle/Blow out the candle
Love is blindness.../A little death/Without mourning/No call/And no warning...
