I don't think she realised how much danger he was in, i think she just thought he was screaming because he was scared of the ride.
Wow must have been frightening for the boy though.

I felt scared for the kid....I mean the mom wasn't even looking at her son when he was hanging on the seat belt. I even thought she had this thought : "Oh...his fat will save him...I'm not worried"

I saw this on America's Funniest Videos. Obviously, the family (and the kid) thought it was funny enough to send in. If you look closely, you can see that there's a support strap between their legs keeping them both in their chairs. He couldn't have possibly fallen out. I suspect that maybe the seatbelt wasn't strapped as snugly as it possibly could have been, because the boy is obviously obese. You can't strap in people quite as well when they're so large. You couldn't apply the right amount of force. The forces on the ride were obviously quite stronger than what a ride attendant could apply, which is why he slips down a bit. But still, he wouldn't have fallen out because of that waist/crotch support strap. The most he could have gotten was a pair of bruised crown jewels. I'd blame the mother more for letting her son get so large.
