'One Day' by The Verve: Very Bono-esq. Get's Me Everytime...

This song is probably my favourite from Urban Hymns, which is saying a lot. It brings me back to a certain time and place in my life whenever I hear it. The little falsetto at the beginning is genius in its simplicity. It's like the perfect ballad. But it's not a cheesy ballad by any stretch. It picks you up, allows you to regain your senses. Great, great song. Anyone else agree?

I swear you've posted on this before Mike, or at least said you wished U2 would cover it, am I right? It is a lovely song, but there's a whole raft of terrific ballads on the album.

Yes, brettig, now that you bring it up, I think I did post a thread on 'One Day' -- but that was, what, 2 years ago? It's a great song, and I was just listening to it tonight for the first time in quite a while, and I had a rush of all these emotions and feelings come back to me that I hadn't felt since the days I listened to this album all the time. I'm quite spontaneous, so I just had to post something about it. It seemed like the natural thing to do! And yes, there are many other great songs on that album, but this post isn't about them; it's about a song that, incidentally, doesn't get much recognition amongst the heavyweights of the album.
