As it stands right now..

1. Arcade Fire – Funeral
2. Nick cave – Abattoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus
3. Augie March - Strange Bird (released in 2002, but.. if we're going by US release date...)
4. Ted Leo – Shake the Sheets
5. Brian Wilson – Smile
6. Franz Ferdinand – Franz Ferdinand
7. Junior Boys – Last Exit
8. Espers – Espers
9. The Dresden Dolls – The Dresden Dolls
10. Annie – Anniemal

Hon Mentions:
Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days
Air – Talkie Walkie
U2 – How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb
Modest Mouse – Good News for People who Like Bad News
John Vanderslice – Cellar Door
The Go! Team- Thunder Lightning Strike
Blockhead – Music By Cavelight
Kanye West – College Dropout
Animal Collective- Sung Tongs
Elbow – Cast of Thousands
Von Bondies - Pawn Shoppe Heart

I probably would've put htdaab higher if i didn't know everyone else would be voting for it. but i still have not so much good at ranking it against other bands.

I thought all you cool indie-freaks would be going nuts over 'Sonic Nurse'

I wish I listened to enough albums made in 2004 to even make a list. I think the only 2004 album I even bought this year was the new U2 album!

I've spent most of the last year revisiting late 80s-early 90s "alternative" (for lack of a more cohesive term). Maybe I'll "revisit" 2004 in another 15 years.

Hey, I'm still revisiting the 90s. Keeping up with the current trends is a waste of time in some ways, because very few wonderful things become apparent as such until some time has elapsed.

I couldn't give a top ten ALBUMS list for this year if you put a gun to my head... on the other hand, I could give a top 50 SONGS for 2004 without much trouble at all. The joys of a short attention span.

Now you know how I feel about Wilco, or as I call them, the Matchbox 20 of the indie world.
