How did we get from Songbird being a Beatles rip-off to Oasis being Beatles rip-off?

It was the UK press that tagged the "next Beatles" label to them.

I don't know much about them and I am just becoming a fan, but from what I know Morning Glory rocks and Definitely Maybe is really good but I expected it to be a little more better.

Hey I love that album, I think each song is over 5 minutes long plus some overblown guitar solos wunderbar!!
