NO! Women in bands.

Sorry but i can't take any band that has a female in it seriously. Its just something that don't like right to me As Lloyd Grossman would say "lets look at the evidence"
1 - The Bangles
2 - Heart
3 - The Corrs
4 - T'pau
5 - Lenny Kravitz with the female drummer in the backing group.....Jesus she was scary
I think the above 'artists' pretty much prove my point.I would like all women to stay out of bands/groups and either go solo or go on to become groupies

- a risky thread I fear!

However - add to that list:-

Kittie
Defenestration
Arch Enemy - and nearly all over Female-fronted Metal bands, except Nightwish, and Lacuna Coil....

I'm sorry, but if you've never heard of the Pixies, the Velvet Underground, the Talking Heads, the Smashing Pumpkins, Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band, or Patti Smith, your music collection sucks, and you suck by extension.

Yes, I know you haven't heard of them, but that doesn't mean they aren't good. It just means you haven't learned to broaden your horizons.

For the indie kids, the Arcade Fire, Morcheeba, and Belle and Sebastian.

Also, Tom Waits' songwriting partner is his apparently-also-fairly-strange wife Kathleen Brennan, although that's not a band.

And oh, don't diss The Bangles!

As the original poster included backing bands, here are some more suggestions of good (backing) bands with women:
Catatonia (Cerys Matthews... )
The Revolution and The New Power Generation
