The Persied meteor shower peaks tonite.

Unfortunately I won't get to see it :sigh:

Although, I am getting quite a sky show. When I left work and got in my car, I thought I saw a flash of lightening in the distance. A minute or so later, I saw another. Before long, it seemed lightening was flashing across the whole sky, all around me. The weather here is still quiet for the most part, with just the distant rumbling of the thunder.

I did catch a glimpse of the almost full moon rising through the storm clouds. It was really pretty to see the orangish colored moon rising between the clouds with flashes of lightening all around.

I love storms, but they don't make for good meteor watching. :tsk:

Hope y'all get to see some!

just be patient when you go out to watch Iris! It may take a while before you see something. Sometimes the meteors come pretty quickly, and sometimes you sit and wait for 20, 30 minutes or more. Some of the meteors are very faint, yet others are big fireballs streaking across the sky. Also, don't look directly towards the moon, and sometimes just blocking the light from the moon or a neighbor's street light by holding up your hand can help. good luck!

actually, it's more like a flaming grain of sand over your head...most meteors are not very big at all

Damn, I forgot about it. Maybe I'll see some down in West Texas tomorrow night... it's darker down there than here.
