New band! The D0

The band is named for the first note of the musical scale.

They are from Helsinki by way of Paris, or maybe the two band members come from different places.

I don't know how to describe this, as the first song almost sounds like M.I.A.. but then the song (and album) becomes something very eclectic. The female singer sounds like Bjork at times, but less potentially abrasive. It's strange, because the rhythms on some songs are reminding me of Vampire Weekend, which we've been discussing here recently.

Check it out:

I suggest listening to the album's first two songs first, Playground Hustle, and At Last. Then maybe Stay (Just a Little Bit More). Don't forget to read the band bio!

I don't know if the album has been released in the States yet, and the band is currently touring Europe.

Be there first before the bandwagon pulls out of the barn! This shit is GOOD.

Yeah, I can see the MIA and Bjork comparisons in Playground Hustle. Very cool song, I like it.

Stay Just a Little Bit More, Joanna Newsom doing '60's pop. Also like.

At Last kinda reminded me of....Sheryl Crow.

The rest of the album just gets more and more interesting. I found it on torrents, so it's out there. Some of the best songs aren't on that MySpace page. There's one really cool one you can check out on YouTube that definitely has more of that M.I.A. vibe:

And here's some reviews I found:

A live TV performance, with lead singer Olivia dressed as a Lost Boy from Peter Pan:

Hmm... I like it!

I'm definitely hearing Bjork and perhaps Kate Bush in the singer's voice. She seems quite eccentric, which is always a good thing,
