Not sure. This is coming from a former colleague of mine, whom I trust, who covers the team.

I would imagine a mixture of prospects and picks. The Habs have a few good defense prospects that they could use. My money is on Nathan Beaulieu going to Philly.

Would love that. I like Talbot but he is severely limited on offense on a team with plenty of talented young wingers like Laughton, McGinn and Akeson who could step in. And Coburn sort of has to go for financial reasons since teams are wary of Meszaros and his injuries. Some young defensive talent would help.

The Brère signing will only make sense for the habs only if Bergevin is able to trade 1 or 2 of the "smurfs".

Brière-Plekanec-Gionta-Desharnais-Dumont-Gallagher.Thats half of the 12 forwards.you ian't gonna win a best-of 7 series with that size in the lineup.

And i didn't talk about the blue line with Bouillon-Gorges-Diaz.

As for the Jagr rumor,well,he could be useful as a power play specialist.But i don't see him being affective 5 on 5 situation..specialy with a 82 games schedule.You don't give 3M for a specialist.maybe 1M-1.5M?

BoMac,you know damn well that the vast majority who were at the parade couldn't name half of the Blackhawks roster. So yes,it was for the most part a bandwagon fans rally.Sure there are more hockey fans in Chicago that in Nashville or Glendale or Raleigh, but that's because the Hawks have a 87 years history.

I'll give you an analogy that you'll understand since you're also in Canada. The Hawks are in Chicago what the Argos or the Alouettes are in TOR and MTL.

Not that it won't be a big chunk of change but he's definitely not bolting over money. Sounds like he just wants to be back in Russia.

Well yeah but that just opens up the idea of renaming the conferences. Idk, they could've done a lot better than metropolitan division...

That's always an option. I feel like "metropolitan" defeats the purpose of regional names. Might as well have gotten crafty again, or gibes Campbell & Wales.

It was 25 years ago today when the unthinkable happened: The Great One is traded to (gasp) LA! I'll never forget watching the press conference on ESPN.

Still makes me feel let down at Wayne leaving his home in Edmonton to go play in the Tinseltown of LA. They say his wife had nothing to do with it BUT she wanted to make a play for Hollywood.

It was the Oilers' owner, Peter Pocklington, who came up with the idea to trade Wayne. Wayne initially didn't want to go, but then he spoke to Bruce McNall, the Kings' then-owner, and the rest is history. The Great One never let you down. Pocklington did.

Thanks MrPryck2U for that info. I researched the trade in more detail today and it seems Pocklington was the culprit. As a young Canadian Kid during those years I didn't understand backroom deals and politics so I blamed Wayne. Boy was I wrong. (Everything You Know Is Wrong-ZooTV).
