Etched in stone. :D

At least MY team made the playoffs. Need I remind you of what happened when we visited Minnesota?:sexywink:

What's up with the ACC? Can't even get loud for opening night, sounded like a funeral parlour mid-period. :shifty:

Lose a bet or something?

Yes she did! :D:D

I will, however, freely admit that Reimer saved the Leafs' asses multiple times during the first period and at a few other points during the game - and Price was in pretty good form, the score notwithstanding :)

First goal of the year was shorthanded! Hopefully that means good things for the penalty kill this season, though I'm hoping those boys don't have to be out very often

You lucky ducks... I had to watch that game and then now I've got to wait TWO WHOLE DAYS to watch my team open the season in New York :|

Winnipeg jets home opener today! That is going to be something to see! :hyper:

I love my team, but I wanted the Jets to win this one. That being said, Price was stellar. The crowd at the beginning was amazing!

Boo, I wanted your team to win this one.

The Jets are gonna be cellar dwellers this season, and that's only a good thing considering they'll likely get a top pick, they'll suck this year as a Southeast team, AND their future success due to so many top picks will be nothing for the Panthers to worry about when Winnipeg joins the West

Really pissed me off though... I was watching the game on NHL Netowrk and this comment:

"It's nice that you know we're in Winnipeg when the fans actually know when a penalty shouldn't have been called"

And I'm just thinking 'fuck you asshole'. I hate that stupid stereotype 'herp derp hockey don't belong down there'. Go to hell. The fans in Atlanta knew fine well what was a penalty and what wasn't. How dare you make such an irrational, stupid statement.

My sympathies to you and the Quebecers on winter vacation who pay peanuts to fill the BA Center instead of having the sense to root for the Lightning.

'Instead of having the sense to root for the Lightning'? What? That doesn't make any sense...?

And lack of attendance says nothing about knowledge of the average fan. Those comments literally say 'the fans in Atlanta don't know the first thing about hockey. They are not Canadian and therefore their opinion is irrelevant'. Pure ignorance.

Yeah, our tickets are cheap. Go figure, we're a 20 year old team who hasn't made the playoffs in 11 years. When you're an utter failure for over half of your existence attendance woes are bound to happen. We've seen what happens when there's a bandwagon to jump on down here, and it's nice. The place fills up. Even at the smell of a winning team (y'know, back in 2008 when the Panthers lost the tiebreaker to your Canadiens and actually had a playoff record tied for #8?)... yeah, they were selling tickets like hotcakes. So we have fair-weather fans, I wont deny that.

Even when a Canadian team is absolutely horrible (I won't mention names:wink:) we still fill the seats!

So we lost 3 players last night..wow. This should be interesting. The rest of the team did step up though!

Yes, everything hockey related revolves around us.

Oh, and thanks for wishing me a Happy Thanksgiving!

I think you're taking this just a wee bit personally. Are there fans in Atlanta or any of the other Sun Belt franchises who are knowledgeable about the game? Of course there are.

But let's try and infuse some logic into this argument. Atlanta, Miami, Tampa Bay, Phoenix, Raleigh etc. are not traditional hockey markets. Hockey has a niche following and the sport is little more than a novelty for the vast majority of sports fans in these markets. I would be willing to bet that most of the six, seven, eight thousand people in attendance are there to be entertained and are not well-versed in the intricacies of the game.

Establishing that culture takes time and a lot more than 10-15 years. It's no different than what MLS is trying to do, in my opinion, by bringing soccer to a new fanbase. I'm sure many, many people at those soccer games would not be aware what constitutes an offside, for example, which is not the case in a place like Europe or South America.

Happy Mark-Hasn't-Gotten-To-See-His-Wild-During-The-Regular-Season-Yet-And-Won't-Today-Either/Canadian Thanksgiving Day!!! :yippie:

(Meanwhile, dumb Columbus Day here is keeping my mail from me, too.)

Meanwhile, the atmosphere at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg last night looked incredibly insane and must have been a lot of fun. But that's nothing. Imagine...IMAGINE how loud and crazy it will be in Toronto when they finally get an NHL team.

One of my friends was at the game. She said it was ridiculously loud in there, and her ears were ringing for several minutes after the first Jets goal. Too bad they didn't win, but that was a great game to watch.

You are in the same city as your team. No sympathy here buddy!

Of course, I'd expect that with Canadian teams where the sport is more popular. However, every single Canadian team has more heritage than the expansion and relocation teams of the 1990s. All of them. Including the Winnipeg Jets. Once again, that says nothing about the knowledge of the fans either way.

It's not taking the comments too personally. It was a weak taste in comment. You're utterly undermining the fans by saying they don't know what a penalty is. How fucking retarded do you think they are? A bunch of infants watching a hockey game? Oh no, silly me. I forgot, only Canadians know hockey.

Oh and at that please don't alienate me oh great people of Canada. I am in essence somewhat Canadian myself.

Also just a bit of info, the Florida Panthers are hardly Miami based. They're actually Sunrise, FL, which is western Florida. If you wan't an actual big city to tie it to, it'd be Ft. Lauderdale. But most of the people who show up to the games are people from Palm Beach and Broward counties. However, I was saying that his post didn't make any sense because we should just 'root for Tampa' or something along those lines. By that logic fans in Ottawa should have never gotten a team because they could just root for Toronto instead. And Nordique fans should've been fine with losing their team because they should've just been rooting for the Canadiens anyways. Plus y'know... Tampa represents one city... Florida represents the whole state. We should just root for Tampa though. Makes sense.

My post was a joke about the Leafs!

Hey, don't be dissing us Canadians, we all didn't make that comment. One sportscaster did. He also said that those in Atlanta wouldn't have known Carey Price's first name to try to taunt him like the crowd was yesterday. I think everyone was caught up in the frenzy. Try not to take it too personally.

Thanks for the geography lesson.

For the record, I don't see it as a Canada/U.S. thing. But in non-traditional hockey markets in the south, the vast majority of fans in attendance will not be able to pick up the nuances of the game, even when it comes to what constitutes a penalty and why a referee called one or not, when compared to places like NYC, Boston, St. Paul, Philly etc.

And this is especially true for places that have a season ticket base of five or six thousand. The rest of the crowd is a mix of fans, from the knowledgeable to the casual observer there for a good time, people that probably wouldn't understand some of the nuances.
