you want to go out friday
and you want to go forever.
you know that it sounds childish
that you've dreamt of alligators.
you hope that we are with you
and you hope you're recognized
you want to go forever
you see it in my eyes.
I'm lost in the confusion
and it doesn't seem to matter
you really can't believe it
and you hope it's getting better

you want to trust the doctors
their procedure is the best
but the last try was a failure
and the intern was a mess.
and they did the same to Matthew
and he bled 'til sunday night
they're saying don't be frightened
but you're weakened by the sight of it
you lock into a pattern
and you know that it's the last ditch
you're trying to see through it
and it doesn't make sense
but they're saying don't be frightened
and they're killing alligators
and they're hog-tied
and accepting of the struggle

you want to trust religion
and you know it's allegory
but the people who are followers
have written their own story.
so you look up to the heavens
and you hope that it's a spaceship
and it's something from your childhood
you're thinking don't be frightened

you want to climb the ladder
you want to see forever
you want to go out friday
and you want to go forever.
and you want to cross your dna
to cross your dna with something reptile.
and you're questioning the sciences
and questioning religion
you're looking like an idiot
and you no longer care.
and you want bridge the schism,
a built-in mechanism to protect you.
and you're looking for salvation
and you're looking for deliverance
you're looking for deliverance
you're looking like an idiot
and you no longer care.
you want to climb the ladder
you want to see forever.
you want to go out friday
you want to go forever.

Bow down to Stipe. Lyrical genius for the ages.
:bow::drool:

This thread reminds me that

1. I need to listen to more REM.

2. I LOVE playing their songs on guitar. Really, it's great.

I'll up Murmur too.

Excellent.

Everyone getting "Lifes Rich Pageant" should get this and play "Catapult" and "Shaking Through" over and over and over.

And "Sitting Still."

And "Talk About The Passion."

And "Radio Free Europe."

And...

end. of. post.

i like how this has turned into a what we like best thread

The Bends and Kid A > OK Computer

but OK Computer does have Climbing Up the Walls...

OK, I just found out some horrible news...

MY ENTIRE REM COLLECTION IS UNLABELED.

Therefore, I still need to find Up. Found Murmur and Reckoning though.

Do ya want me to do one of those?

I have the weirdest, sweetest memory of What's The Frequency, Kenneth. Last summer, the morning I woke up to see the Flaming Lips, that's the song that was on my alarm.

 That opening riff is magical

You all had better go out and buy these albums after you hear them ... because you will love them.

It's not a prediction ... "you will love them" is a command.

Are any of these albums truly essential:

Fables of the Reconstruction
Green
Reveal
Around The Sun

Those are the only ones I don't have.

Green.

I'll up.

I also have the "Tour Film" video ripped to AAC.

If there's desire, I'll up "Tour Film" as well.

(It's a concert)

BeginThe Begin
End of the World
Fall On Me
Feeling Gravitys Pull
Finest Worksong
Get Up
I Belive
I Remember California
King Of Birds
Perfect Circle
Pop Song 89
Stand
The One I Love
These Days
Turn You Inside Out
World Leader Pretend
You Are Everything

Green is the most essential of those. Than Fables, it's just a really good album. You could live without Reveal, although there are a couple really good songs on there (Beat A Drum  ). Don't even bother with Around the Sun. There are some people here who would probably try to convince you that album's worth it, but it really isn't. Just trust me there.

LemonMelon, from that list, I'd get Fables. It's the most consistent of the albums listed. And Green is getting unfairly knocked around here, I think. It's a very good record.

Tour Film! It features the scariest stage look Michael Stipe has ever produced. :yikes:

I love their cover of the Velvet Underground's "After Hours" that plays during the closing credits. REM having a little fun =
