oh i didn't know you wanted to HEEEEEAAAAAARRRR it
well...the house used to be heated by coal (twas built in 1862), and in the dirt floor basement (with limestone walls!) there's a back room that was used for coal storage and it had the coal oven too, where people would go down and shovel coal in to make it warmer. (note: we did not heat it via coal when we lived there)
the story goes that someone was shovelling coal in and got locked into the coal room and basically boiled up from the heat generated.
there was another story involving the attic - but it escapes me now.
anyway, i DID revisit last sunday when there was an open house...everything did seem a bit smaller to me....and, in the upstairs i was too tall for a bunch of the doorways - i guess 5'11" by 1860 standards is not built to suit.
