Ok, so after having heard Speed of Sound and 9 other track of X+Y on "The leak", followed by their Live MTV gig where they played several songs off "X&Y", I was glad to proclaim that album as SUCK-ccessful and the band as overhyped-U2-wannabes. BUT today it was given to me as a present and after 3 run-throughs, I must say that I was dead wrong!
It is a very good album with some great tracks. It's not a ground shaking masterpiece either but I consider it a must have for '05.
I think that alot of my prejudice was due to the comparisons in terms of greatness and musical relavence with respect to my beloved U2. It made me a little defensive and started to dislike Coldplay(especially after his "wanting to be bigger than U2" comments). This was wrong. Coldplay is not U2, nor do they sound alike. CP is great Brit-pop rock and U2 is...well, U2!
