I'm trying to make a cd for this girl I know who is going to college. It's kinda of an odd relationship we've had, throughout hugh school we both have liked each other alot but have somehow never hooked up with each other. Neither of us has been able to say the right things and the right time, kinda deal. So I figured I'd make a CD to give to her when she goes away to college in a few months. I've already included WGRYWH by U2 and 13 by Wilco and was hoping to get a few more suggestions. Thanks!

Snow Patrol - Run

I second that...

Maybe some Jack Johnson so she doesn't bawl her way to college...

Better Together
Sitting, Waiting, Wishing
Constellations
Cupid

Oh! And some James Taylor...

Copperline
You've Got a Friend

Others include:

Sister Hazel: Your Mistake
Nickel Creek: Tomorrow is a Long Time
Joy Division: Love Wil Tear Us Apart

So ya trying to win her over? A bit of advice: don't put anything on there she's likely to have heard before. You want to introduce her to music that she'll ALWAYS associate with you. Music is dang powerful in that regard. Mix genre, mix old with new.

Not knowing what kind of music she likes, it's not an easy task, but here's a few ideas off the toppa my head...

Beautiful Girl-INXS
Fly Me to the Moon-Astrud Gilberto version
The Luckiest-Ben Folds
Walk to the Water-U2
Black Coffee-kd lang
New Slang-The Shins
July, July-The Decemberists
Walking After Midnight-Patsy Cline
Stand By Me-the Clash
Feeling Good-Nina Simone
Ooh Child-The Five Stairsteps
Here Comes Your Man-The Pixies
Wanderlust-The Delays
Love Goes On-The GoBetweens
There is a Light that Never Goes Out-The Smiths
Here, There and Everywhere-The Beatles
The Look of Love-Dusty Springfield
Windfall-Son Volt
Wake Up-Arcade Fire
Mahgeeta-My Morning Jacket
La Cienega Just Smiled-Ryan Adams

Ah...so many songs....so many girls....so little time...If I weren't married to the most beautiful woman on earth, I'd wish I were single again. Just to make Mixes. :) Good luck.

Lady Grinning Soul - David Bowie
Sugar Spun Sister - Stone Roses
There Is A Light.... - The Smiths
2 Shots Of Happy 1 Shot Of Sad - U2
Such A Woman - Neil Young
Blindfold - Morcheeba
Another Day - This Mortal Coil
Because The Night - Patti Smith Group
Love Is Lies - The Buzzcocks
Wild Is The Wind - Bowie
Rust - Echo & The Bunnymen
Happy Ending - Joe Jackson
She's A Star - James
A Rainy Night In Soho - The Pogues
Parted From You - The Men They Couldn't Hang

Depending on yours/her taste should be something in that little lot to suit most tastes

LPU2s list is nuts, i think if it were me id have like at least five from those,

but i know my mix cds always have a few big happy up songs, even if its for someone significant... like say

the doves - pounding
my morning jacket - anytime
the waking eyes - on a train
the salads - get loose
switchfoot - we are one

and of course you want the more meaningful stuff too
youth group - forever young
fiest - now at last (a good closer prolly)
helen stellar - 10 (this time around)

and id throw in sophies - je ne fais pas d histoires, just for its kitsch value (its the tom jones classic its not unusual done in french)

i have four million slow groaner songs id pick from too, but id have to say get these posters suggestions and take the ones you like bets and youd have a kickass mix cd.
