This is my CD selection for the evening, as I have ordained tonight for moping so I can start the weekend with a clear heart and head.

Amnesiac, Radiohead
A CD that I sometimes forget that I own; "Pyramid Song" and "You and Whose Army?" seem particularly helpful.

Vauxhall and I, Morrissey
tell all of my friends--
(I don't have too many,
just some raincoated lover's puny brothers...)

--"Now My Heart Is Full"

Ophelia, Natalie Merchant
The very first line:
Ophelia was a bride of God...
--"Ophelia"
Oh, that sets the mood just fine, thanks. Also has a great musical eulogy for Allen Ginsberg.

Grace and Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk, Jeff Buckley.
On Grace: "Lover You Should've Come Over," on repeat into eternity.
On Sketches: "Jewel Box," "Everybody Here Wants You," "Opened Once"...
Not strictly mope-y CDs, but they definitely serve the purpose.

Forever Blue, Chris Isaak
Exactly what the title sounds like. Just look at some of the songs: "Somebody's Crying," "Don't Leave Me on My Own," "Things Go Wrong," "The End of Everything"...it's a wonder Chris made it through that one alive.

Automatic for the People, R.E.M.
Do songs get more cutting than "Try Not to Breathe"? And of course the essential weeper "Everybody Hurts."

What tunes do YOU mope by?

love is blindness. that is not a happy solo...just realised that today.

automatic for the people is my moping cd...

love is blindness has been known to make me cry when i'm down..

just a note..lover, you should've come over is my favorite non-u2 song (as of right now)...

Yesterday the last two songs on the new AFI cd (Sing The Sorrow) really helped to drag me into a semi depression.

silverchair's neon ballroom album makes my best friend cry

I haven't listened to that album in ages! Thanks for reminding me about it. Time to mope lol

Well I bought Neon Ballroom when it came out, pretty much for the single at the time (year 2000). I wouldn't say I'm a fan, but I do own the album.

 still, you have the album. diorama's better...neon ballroom is great thoug

I'll have to go with Love is Blindness, Please, So cruel and Wake up dead man.

other than U2, REM's "Everybody Hurts" and G&R's "Don't Cry"...ok maybe the last one's a little childish but hey it's for moping!!!

The bends is my ultimate moping/slightly pissed off/feelin' like shit album

My nifty moping playlist I found on my computer:

"the Long Day Is Over" Norah Jones
"Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters" Elton John
"This Year's Love" David Gray
"Forever" Ben Harper
"A Long December" Counting Crows
"In My Place" Coldplay
"Songbird (live)" Tori Amos
"In My Life" the Beatles
"Signs of Love" Moby

::ducks and covers for her last choice::

"Landslide" the Dixie Chicks :reject:

Posted this somewhere else, but might as well:

My mopey cassette tape:

Tom McRae - End Of The World News
Damien Rice - Volcano
Oasis - Talk Tonight
Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road (live)
Sarah McLachlan - Song For A Winter's Night
David Gray - This Year's Love
Coldplay - The Scientist
The Jam - English Rose
Nick Drake - Fruit Tree
Primal Scream - Damaged
Ryan Adams - When The Stars Go Blue
Beth Orton - I Wish I Never Saw The Sunshine
Pearl Jam - Indifference

Hmm...well most of that is mopey anyway. That's just side a, if I post side B I'd look like a dork. :)

Hmmm Lets think:

Silent all These Years - Tori Amos
Everybody Hurts - REM
One - U2
Every Breath You Take - Sting/The Police
Perfect - Alanis Morissette
Warning Sign - Coldplay
Paper Bag - Fiona Apple
Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead
Space Between - Dave Matthews Band
Imagine - John Lennon
Is there Life on Mars - David Bowie
Days of our lives - QUEEN
Driftwood - Travis
Wonderwall - Oasis

I really like Nick Drake's voice...it's almost as if he's speaking but yet it's not. It's hard to describe really, but I like it.
  I LOVE it. And the way he plays guitar is amazing...very hypnotizing.... I have to add in a little plug for Neil Halstead, if you like nick drake. He's the lead singer of mojave 3, which is also wonderful, but i'd check out his solo album 'sleeping on roads' as well... :)

I listened to a special moper CD before I went to be last night, too (but not today--as promised I dug myself out with Broooooce's The Rising and Pearl Jam's Vs.). I'll post the playlist later.

Funny you should mention Vauxhall and I. It was the first thing that came into my head.

Other mopers:

August and Everything After--Counting Crows
Dido--No Angel
Selmasongs--Bjork (watch the movie if you really want to mope!)
Passengers, to some extent

tracks of tragedy

Eric Clapton-river of tears
Kasey Chambers- million tears
Luka Bloom -Throw Your Arms around Me

Phew,I'm glad I'm thru that phase. Beautiful beautiful songs. But they always make me:sad:
it just helps though sometimes, doesn't it?
