Music for Moping

This is my CD selection for the evening, as I have ordained tonight for moping so I can start the weekend with a clear heart and head.

Amnesiac, Radiohead
A CD that I sometimes forget that I own; "Pyramid Song" and "You and Whose Army?" seem particularly helpful.

Vauxhall and I, Morrissey
tell all of my friends--
(I don't have too many,
just some raincoated lover's puny brothers...)

--"Now My Heart Is Full"

Ophelia, Natalie Merchant
The very first line:
Ophelia was a bride of God...
--"Ophelia"
Oh, that sets the mood just fine, thanks. Also has a great musical eulogy for Allen Ginsberg.

Grace and Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk, Jeff Buckley.
On Grace: "Lover You Should've Come Over," on repeat into eternity.
On Sketches: "Jewel Box," "Everybody Here Wants You," "Opened Once"...
Not strictly mope-y CDs, but they definitely serve the purpose.

Forever Blue, Chris Isaak
Exactly what the title sounds like. Just look at some of the songs: "Somebody's Crying," "Don't Leave Me on My Own," "Things Go Wrong," "The End of Everything"...it's a wonder Chris made it through that one alive.

Automatic for the People, R.E.M.
Do songs get more cutting than "Try Not to Breathe"? And of course the essential weeper "Everybody Hurts."

What tunes do YOU mope by?

Yesterday the last two songs on the new AFI cd (Sing The Sorrow) really helped to drag me into a semi depression.

Well I bought Neon Ballroom when it came out, pretty much for the single at the time (year 2000). I wouldn't say I'm a fan, but I do own the album.

I'll have to go with Love is Blindness, Please, So cruel and Wake up dead man.

other than U2, REM's "Everybody Hurts" and G&R's "Don't Cry"...ok maybe the last one's a little childish but hey it's for moping!!!

My nifty moping playlist I found on my computer:

"the Long Day Is Over" Norah Jones
"Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters" Elton John
"This Year's Love" David Gray
"Forever" Ben Harper
"A Long December" Counting Crows
"In My Place" Coldplay
"Songbird (live)" Tori Amos
"In My Life" the Beatles
"Signs of Love" Moby

:ucks and covers for her last choice::

"Landslide" the Dixie Chicks

Posted this somewhere else, but might as well:

My mopey cassette tape:

Tom McRae - End Of The World News
Damien Rice - Volcano
Oasis - Talk Tonight
Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road (live)
Sarah McLachlan - Song For A Winter's Night
David Gray - This Year's Love
Coldplay - The Scientist
The Jam - English Rose
Nick Drake - Fruit Tree
Primal Scream - Damaged
Ryan Adams - When The Stars Go Blue
Beth Orton - I Wish I Never Saw The Sunshine
Pearl Jam - Indifference

Hmm...well most of that is mopey anyway. That's just side a, if I post side B I'd look like a dork.
