So has anyone here been to Monaco? If you have, do you know what it is like as a place to spend New Years Eve?

So no one here at interference has actually stayed a night there?

I have been.

I went as a day trip from Nice and absolutely loved it. I hated Nice (no offense to anyone from there, I do not think I was there long enough to really appreciate it.)

I was only in Monte Carlo, but the things I remember were how beatiful the views were, how beautiful the people, cars, and boats were.

Having only one day to run around (I think I was actually alone at the time) I only got in the things I really wanted to see.

The Casino
The harbour (Prince Albert's yacht.)
Some restaurants
The Ferrari dealership.

It is a great city, hilly gorgeous and expensive.

I definitely recommend going, and if you are planning on spending New Years there, I think it is a fabulous idea. I can imagine it would be an absolute blast to be there, just save up.

If you are planning on going outside Monte Carlo, I really cannot help - sorry, but I have to imaging the rest of the principality is beautiful.

thats fine, i only liked nice in hindsight. at the time i was grouchy because of all the bad dogs shitting everywhere. i hate it.

and the people were complete bitches too. i screamed at an old lady after she started yelling at me for no reason. crazy crackpots.

but the scenery is indeed beautiful. too bad stupid people live there.

i love monaco. i didn't actually spend the night there because we were staying in nice. ouizy is right - monte carlo is way more beautiful than nice. i really don't have any new years recommendations though... :der:

i'm sure you'll have an amazing time regardless of what you decide to do. it's an incredible place.

Thanks! I found some budget hotels just on the border with Monaco and only about 300 meters from the Casino. Essentially, my group could fill up a couple of quads in these hotels at around 20 US dollars each per night, which is about the same as a youth hostel. Nice has a good airport to with the same rates as any other major city in Europe.

Your also only 5 miles from ITALY! That offers some more interesting ideas as well.

If you need any advice for Italy I am pretty well versed in where to go (to a certain extent.)

I would actually love to go back to Monte Carlo, 20 bucks a night sounds great - you should definitely go.

If you do fly into Nice, I would get teh hell out ASAP. If you want to see the area you could check out Cannes instead or St. Tropez...
