When the Twins get their new stadium, I've got a feeling they won't be having too many home games in April.

Actually, I think Boston would be colder! But I have seen significant snow in Minnesota up to April 28. Not much different than Cleveland last year.

The Mets had to come back in the bottom of the 9th just to tie an NCAA squad tonight

because spring training games really count for something, and teams put forth their full effort and really play to win with a full squad's worth of major league talent botn on the field and on the mound.[/obviousblatantgynormoussarcasm]

Agreed, especially with the cold wind coming in off the ocean. It gets downright freezing in the park on some April nights.

CHICAGO -- The chief executive officer of the Tribune Company said Wednesday he won't hesitate to sell the naming rights to Wrigley Field -- even if baseball purists don't like the idea.

During an interview on CNBC, Sam Zell said despite Wrigley Field being known worldwide, he didn't get a discount because he wasn't going to use the naming rights that the field represents.

Zell said he plans to sell the Cubs and Wrigley separately and in his own time frame. He also disclosed that Major League Baseball has approved "four or six" potential ownership groups and that any one of them would be fine.

The sale of the team has been delayed by Zell's plan to sell the team and the stadium separately, and to have a state agency acquire and renovate Wrigley.

Considering that the park is already named after a company, I don't think it's a big deal.

Meanwhile, The New York Daily News reported on Tuesday that another major league player told congressional investigators that Clemens often joked in the clubhouse that his wife Debbie Clemens and Canseco's ex-wife Jessica compared the results of their surgically enhanced breasts at the party in question.

Wright homers in Mets' 4-4 tie with Michigan

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) -David Wright homered his first time up and the New York Mets tied the University of Michigan 4-4 Tuesday in an exhibition game worked by an umpiring crew of four women.

Wright hit a two-run homer in the first inning. Michel Abreu hit a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to tie it, and the game was called after the inning ended.

Jose Reyes went 1-for-2 with a double. Billy Wagner pitched a scoreless inning and the Wolverines nicked Aaron Heilman for a run.

"The pitchers all threw strikes, which you look for early in camp to pound the zone,'' Mets manager Willie Randolph said.

The umpiring crew was unique, with Perry Barber at home plate, Mona Osborne at first base, Theresa Fairlady at second base and Ila Valcarcel at third base.

Fairlady reached the Double-A level in the late 1980s and Barber and Valcarcel went to the Harry Wendelstedt umpiring school in 2005 and work college games. Osborne is a former college umpire.

"It was a special day for me,'' Valcarcel said. "It was my first experience working with major league players. Once the game started, I concentrated on making my calls.

"People in the stands would yell once in a while, saying, 'good call, blue!' on obvious calls,'' she said. "It's hard not to laugh sometimes.''

Valcarcel was the only woman who took part in Major League Baseball's first West Coast umpire camp last fall. There was just one woman umpire in professional baseball last year, Ria Cortesio, and she was released from her Double-A contract after the season ended.
I love the bolded quote....

I guess Wright, Wagner and Reyes aren't "top talent" for the Mets this year!

I enjoyed the callers today on WFAN who were trying to argue that Santana is on the downside of his career, not a very good pitcher (based on him giving up 4 HRs in a game last season), and that he's on par with Barry Zito. Good stuff.

What, this means the Phils are shoo-ins to win the WS (as long as none of their pitchers wear spikes to the mound, thats dangerous)
