Do they always do that, have a host team rep?

Usually...it would be bad if there was no one from the hometown team playing...no one for the locals to rally around.

I forget who the token White Sox player was last year at the cel...

7 of the 8 have already been chosen

Teixeira was chosen out of a deep field of All-Star sluggers to represent the United States. He'll join a field for Monday's event that includes Major League home run leader Andruw Jones (representing the Netherlands), Boston DH David Ortiz (Dominican Republic), Philadelphia's Bobby Abreu (Venezuela), Pittsburgh's Jason Bay (Canada), Detroit's Ivan Rodriguez (Puerto Rico) and Milwaukee's Carlos Lee (Panama).

I think this international format is lame. i also thing the "world cup" is a very bad idea.

Music to my ears

Gotta agree with you, though. The international format sucks. I'd rather see 8 of the plain best home run hitters than 8 guys from different nations.

Jeez, Jose Guillen is pulling the same crap he did with the Angels. Reportedly, after he got plunked by Pedro Tuesday night, he got in the face of Loaiza and Brian Schneider and bitched at them for not retaliating.

Wonder if/when Jose is going to wake up. He's probably already lost $millions in potential salary due to his bad rep.

this is the first that i am hearing of the international format for the home run derby.

Why? this is stoooopid. just get the best HR hitters no matter where they are from.

The Mets have something against Jose Guillen, they hit him once or twice in every series the Nats play them. Each time he gets hit, the Mets announcers say "Jose Guillen is hit AGAIN. We reviewed old footage of previous games but can not understand what he did to deserve the numerous plunkings"

they are doing it to promote major leaguers being in the World Cup next spring training.

i think that idea is a disaster itself, how do you get the pitchers ready for something like that? if a high profile pitcher goes down to injury in one of those games because he didnt have enough time to prepare his arm for such a competition, then that could be disasterous.
