Aybar gives you more RBI; Elvis more stolen bases. But here's the thing: Elvis is not as good a defensive shortstop as Aybar.

Without bothering to go and look up stats, I have a problem with this statement....

ETA, and it turns out I was right to have a problem with it. :)

This week's SI has their baseball preview.

They had a nice article on Doc Holladay.

They mentioned a lot of different stats that were impressive, but my favorite was from last season:

Doc faced 963 batters last season, and went to a 3-0 count on just 16 of them.

2nd favorite stat is that Halladay is the first pitcher since Cy Young to strike out more than 200 batters in a season while having fewer walks than starts.

He's going to fuck the National League up so badly.

Also, baseball starts in 24 hours. I cannot fucking wait.

The man is also insanely driven. His discipline, work-out regimen, etc, is remarkable. Goes a long way towards explaining why he goes 8 or 9 innings almost every start. Well, that and throwing lots and lots of strikes.

Elvis Andrus may beat Aybar in your fancy stats like wOBA and UZR/150 and ZOMGLOLWTFBBQ, but I bet he can't do this:

(EDIT: the preview function is useless.)

Wow.

Did I mention I put Brandon Wood on my ignore list? Well, I put Brandon Wood on my ignore list. I feel like this is a good move, seeing as he's the Strongbow of this thread. The only other person on my ignore list? Strongbow! I'm a man of consistency.

It's been a long weekend. Can't wait to sit down with a few beers, a nice High Def screen, and watch this game tonight. Go Yankees.

Yeah, ESPN really has it out for the Yankees.

I really hope I never hear "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" again unless I'm rewatching The Departed.

Well, they did have Lebron James on the set of Baseball Tonight (with Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine) hawking Dre's new line of headphones. For a minute I was petrified at the thought of James officially renouncing his Yankee fandom and jumping aboard the Red Sox bandwagon -- I think I would have suffered a brain aneurysm if that had happened.

Yeah, that whole segment was fascinating. If "fascinating" means shameless.

I want a whole Jewish infield when Mel Gibson comes out.

I am sure you have forgotten but I mentioned that I was lucky enough to be flipping around the MLB package that night, stopped on NESN as I often do, and so I heard that whole thing happen Live. I was crying then, and it still makes me laugh now.

There hasn't been a pesky pole this well publicized since Laz OD'd on Cialis.
