There isn't any hype that I've yet encountered, but I don't know how that could possibly be. Midnight Juggernauts is a young, somehow still-unknown band hailing from Melbourne (which appears to be a new music hotbed, at the rate it's currently going), Australia, which plays what I suppose I could trepidatiously describe as 1/5 Blondie, 4/5 Daft Punk, and 5/3 awesomeness. A very contemporary French dancefloor feeling to these guys, to be sure. Consider this my revelation to the world, in case it's really as out-of-step as I fear. Start paying attention now, kids!

I see a lot of non-musical similarities to Voxtrot (minus the hype, as I've said), here--a series of impossibly strong and ever-better singles/EPs and a forthcoming debut LP (Dystopia, to be released in just a few short weeks) which at least some people like myself are looking forward to with equal parts anticipation and skepticism.

In Voxtrot's case, the record failed to live up to the potential outlined by the EPs and singles, and the band was crushed under the weight of expectation, but I'm hoping that Midnight Juggernauts can get it right. ...Because, seriously--this is a band that seems to be worth losing your shit over. Here're some samples:

God damn, I want this album to kick ass.

They sound straight out of 1982, with rhe same production values. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad things.

^Likewise...so far I would rather stick on Discovery by Daft Punk than this...it's not bad though.

'80s revival is cool, as long as it mixes it with a modern sound / production, like Bloc Party.

There's been too many bands like that, but I really wouldn't peg Bloc Party that way, maybe earlier, but they've really grown into their own sound and are writing some of the most compelling rock music today.

It's funny how many of these type bands (The Killers being the biggest example) have grown so popular with teeny boppers who of course don't recognize recycled sound.

Oh but the band themselves, not terrible but next big indie thing? Hmmmmm....
