Have You Heard The Loretta Lynn/Jack White Song?

I heard it on the radio this afternoon-it's called Portland Oregon. Interesting..I want to hear it again because I was busy at the time and didn't pay close attention. I guess he produced her new album, and might even tour w/ her ( I didn't think she was still up for touring  ) I remember her because my parents used to listen to her years ago...

LAUNCH Radio Networks

White Stripes frontman Jack White will appear in two videos for the new album from country legend Loretta Lynn, according to MTV.com. White produced the album, titled Van Lear Rose, in addition to playing guitar and piano on the disc. The Detroit rocker also duets with Lynn on "Portland, Oregon," which is the subject of one of the videos. A second clip, for "Miss Being Mrs.," will feature performance footage and will be shot at the plantation in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, where Lynn's 1980 movie biography, Coal Miner's Daughter, was filmed.

White is aware that his involvement with Lynn's album will bring increased attention to it, but he told LAUNCH that the scrutiny doesn't bother him. "I don't mind, and I have to be humble in talking about that, but any attention that comes to Loretta via any means is good in my brain, you know," White said. "Whether it was someone else doing it or me doing it, if there's any way that more attention could be paid to her and her songwriting, then I'm all for that."

Van Lear Rose arrives in stores on April 27. White hopes to tour with Lynn later this year

yeah I have heard it a few times on triple J here, its alright, I think I am missing the point with the white stripes and Jack White, again another artist who comes across as a pretentious wanker (waiting for the flame!!!) he has produced her new album and from what I have heard, he is a big fan of hers. The song is alright, sounds exactly like what you would exect it to though, white stripes 'sound' with an older country icon chicky singing:|

For anyone who is interested, Jack and Loretta will be appearing on Letterman later this week (I believe).

I've heard 4 of the songs and they sound really interesting...I'm looking forward to hearing the whole CD.

Loretta's voice sounds really young and I like Jack White's more modern contributions blended with Loretta's traditional country.

And yes Mrs. Springsteen, she is currently touring small venues and I have also heard she might do something in support of this CD...I think she's expanding her horizons now that she's hanging with the young folks...she recently had her very first album release party ever, with Jack White as her escort

I  Loretta

There was an interesting article about the Lynn/White collaboration in the L.A. Times a week ago Sunday but I can't access it for posting because I'm not a subscriber.

I heard it yesterday on the car radio. Seemed a bit shaky to me, but I've only had one listen, so I won't criticise it.
I myself still love what Tammy Wynette did with KLF...."they're justified and they're ancient and they drive an ice cream van...":)
I am still impressed with...what's his name???Coyne? the singer from Flaming Lips. He told a story and sang the song.."Thank You Jack White For The Optic Fibre Jesus That You Gave Me"
great song title.

Now that song was cool with the KLF and what a great juxtaposition of musical idenities, but it worked nicely.............I loved the KLF...... and also I have heard that song by the Flaming Lips, another band who I really like too and speaking of musical pairings, the lead singers pairing with the Chemical Brothers was great on 'the golden path'

Jack White and Loretta Lynn

There are a few songs from Loretta Lynn's album that included Jack White of the White Stripes. Pretty good songs especially Portland, Oregon. Saw Loretta open for the White Stripes and she was quite cool. I know I know, she's old and country but so was Johnny Cash. You can check out a few of the new songs below.

got the CD today and I'm loving it

best tracks IMO:

Van Lear Rose
Portland Oregon
Have Mercy
Mrs. Leroy Brown (I love her spoken bit at the end)
Miss Being a Mrs. :(

I just got done listening to the CD. Interesting stuff. I'm more partial to the songs that lean more toward rock, like Have Mercy On Me and Portland, Oregon, rather than the more "country" songs, but I guess I'm biased because I've never been a big country fan.

I'm not a big country fan either, but I love Portland,Oregon. It's played quiet alot on the independent/alternative station here. I catch myself turning it up when it comes on. It's different. Good job, I say:yes:

I've read an infinte amount of amazing reviews on this album..I may have to [pick it up
