I dunno about awful but they sound like everything else out there right now. Snow Patrol, bad Coldplay, lyrics stolen from Daniel Powter's bad poetry handbook... yawn yawn yawn.

How To Save A Life sounds alright, There's A Cable Car Over My Head or whaever got pretty boring after a while....nothing very special about them...their success boils down to simply being discovered in the right place at the right time....lucky them!

The breathy, flaccid vocals are as bad as it gets. The lyrics are trash and the music is completely uninventive and uninspired.

Quote:
Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk

He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
And you begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best

Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And pray to God he hears you

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came
I've bolded the particularly gruesome lyrical abortions. The narrative in this particular song is awful. The whole "okay, this is how you talk to someone" gimmick is contrived and boring. I don't understand how anyone could enjoy this song.

They're this generation's Hootie and the Blowfish. They'll be nothing after this album.

An insult to Hootie....

I miss them and how cool and 90's they were.

They're not particularly bad. I think most people would think they were okay if they could walk around for 15 minutes without hearing "How To Save A Life."

Seriously, stop playing that song, everyone. Stop it.

And rhyming a word with the exact same word does NOT work very well with them.

I actually liked the Over My Head song. It was quite catchy and free on iTunes which I think is part of their success actually.

How to Save a Life is okay. Gets old pretty fast. Basically meh. The Fray pretty much sound like a more poppy and more boring Coldplay to me.

The Fray

Anyone else here like them? I just got their album and I've yet to fiinish it, but I like what I hear so far! The songs seem solid, a bit U2-ish in sound but surprisingly refreshing. Admittedly, the songs don't seem to differ much, but they do so just enough to keep the album interesting. I think they have some serious potential, and am looking forward to hearing more of their music.

So, am I alone? Or does anyone think these guys are good?

They sound just like another average American band. I don't think they're awful, just mediocre and bland as boiled potatoes.
