(Turn your head to the side to see the secret message)

In a hilarious use of Asian characters, one of the contestants, J.D., on CBS' Rockstar INXS wore a shirt that, when viewed normally, appeared to say something in an Asian language but, when viewed sideways, clearly reads "Go Fuck Your Self." Censors did not catch the trick and images of the contestant are all over the Rockstar INXS website (as we figured, CBS has removed the images) and, presumably, were broadcast as well.

Well, tf... If you can't see that and I'm assuming you know their music; then whatever I say probably won't matter much, will it?

midnight oil is an Austrlain band

and Inxs is a band from Australia

having seen both live this is my impression

of course I am not Australian

I do remember when they filmed the devil inside vid
about a mile from where I live
in an arcade at the Balboa fun zone.

this show is being done in LA with mostly American candidates

now, the oils were truly an Australian band

they brought it in their music, instruments, lyrics, dress, stage props, etc.

I am indeed familiar with their music. Ive been a fan since "Just Keep Walking", which, as a random example, is not remotely "American R&B". INXS were what we call in a Australia, a pub rock band. They went through a few funk stages but basically they were always a pub rock band.

Midnight oil were loud and trashy. I detest them muchly. Midnight Oil sound like a bad USA heavy metal band to me.

Which is one of the many many things wrong with this tv show. Apart from my personal opinion that:

a) Michael Hutchence can never be replaced and the remaining INXS members should form a new band or go take up golf.

and

b) Recruiting a member of a rock band via a reality tv show is tacky and bound to failure.

there is also the

c) why the fuck are they recruiting in the USA for the singer of an Australian band?

which leads me to

d) $$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!1! : puke :

I agree with B and C, even though I'm enjoying the show. I was an INXS fan for some time, and don't begrudge them wanting to continue playing music. But the way they're going about it does reek of $$$, which hey, whatever works for them.

However, I would be VERY surprised if their new version of INXS has any success beyond the state fair/casino circuit, just like the other bands carrying on with a new lead singer (Journey, Queen, Doors, etc.).

Because that's where the money is.

Tis very true, Indra. There is certainly nothing wrong at all with American music and there is nothing wrong with a band wishing for success. INXS however, do not have to do this at all.

To you. And that's great for you. But starting with Listen Like Thieves and right up to their last album, they have shown a lot of soul/blues/RB influences and they admit that themselves.

You said "American R&B" and that was what I was arguing against.

Also, you are now talking solely about their 5th album to their 10th (? or however many albums INXS made). You didn't say that before.

INXS were based here in Perth back when they were the Farris brothers and the radio is quite obsessed with "our boys" (even though they belong to Sydney) . I have heard their songs from the start of their career to the end, seen them live, have the vinyl, etc, blah. Im not being flippant for arguments sake and I do disagree with you.
