They're one of my favorite bands. I love pretty much every album of theirs from 1986's Life's Rich Pageant to 1998's Up. Except for parts of Murmur and Chronic Town, I can't really get into their early stuff though. Stipe sounds too incoherent and obscure. The music is too... I dont know.. lowkey?

I think I'm the only person in the world who likes Monster better than Automatic for the People.

I always like the "black sheep" albums best -- Midnite Vultures by Beck, Pop by U2 are both masterpieces to me. I don't think Monster is a masterpiece, but I do really love some of the tracks.

I love Monster even though I prefer Automatic. Whats the Frequency, Crush With Eyeliner, Bang And Blame, Strange Currencies, Star69, I Don't Sleep I Dream, I Took Your Name... love it all.

I like New Adventures but havent listened to it in a long time. I see it as an album of many good songs... not just a few brilliant ones and a few duds.

No you're not alone! If I never hear "Everybody Hurts" again it'll be too soon! Though I did sing along with everyone else when I saw them live this month.

But I do love the rest of the album.

Well... it may be overplayed and boring now. But it's a beautiful song nevertheless. (and I have good memories about the video too) Those lyrics are just

When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
when you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on.
Don't let yourself go, everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes.

Sometimes everything is wrong. Now it's time to sing along.
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
if you feel like letting go, (hold on)
when you think you've had too much of this life, well hang on.

Everybody hurts. Take comfort in your friends.
Everybody hurts. Don't throw your hand. Oh, no. Don't throw your hand.
If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone

If you're on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
when you think you've had too much of this life to hang on.

Well, everybody hurts sometimes,
everybody cries. And everybody hurts sometimes.
And everybody hurts sometimes. So, hold on, hold on.
Hold on, hold on. Hold on, hold on. Hold on, hold on. (repeat & fade)
(Everybody hurts. You are not alone.)

I just had to post that.

Love it. Generally considered their best since Automatic.
