Paris Hilton booked on DUI charges

ASSOCIATED PRESS

LOS ANGELES - Paris Hilton was arrested early Thursday for investigation of driving under the influence, police said.
Hilton was arrested shortly before 12:30 a.m. after being pulled over in Hollywood, said police Officer I. Isabella, who declined to give his first name.

Police stopped Hilton because she was "driving erratically," he said.

"The officers observed that Hilton exhibited the symptoms of intoxication. A field sobriety test was conducted at scene, and the officers determined she was driving under the influence," Isabella said, reading a police statement.

Hilton was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and released, he said.

Her spokesman, Elliot Mintz, confirmed the arrest and said police detected the minimum blood-alcohol level to warrant an arrest. The legal limit in California is 0.08 percent.

"She's absolutely fine," Mintz said. "She didn't appear in the least bit to be intoxicated."

At the time of her arrest, Hilton was driving home in her Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren from a charity event where she had one drink, a margarita, he said. She had spent the day shooting a music video for her new album, "Paris."

The driving under the influence symptoms were "probably the result of an empty stomach and working all day and being fatigued," Mintz said.

She was picked up from the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood station by her sister, Nicky, Nicky's boyfriend, actor Kevin Connolly, and Mintz.

In June, Hilton had a fender-bender accident when her Range Rover backed into a car in a parking garage after a shopping trip

I love the "spin" her camp puts on it. She had 1 margarita, an empty stomach, and was at a charity event.

Whatever.

I like the paparazzi guy who kept on saying "he he he" in a high pitched voice as they were pulling in to the driveway.

Just hours after her arrest on suspicion of DUI, Paris Hilton called into the On Air with Ryan Seacrest show on LA's KIIS-FM this morning and told Ryan that she may have been driving a little fast in her Mercedes McLaren SLR, but it was only because she wanted a burger.

Paris told Ryan she had an excruciatingly long day on Wednesday filming the video for her new single "Nothing in This World." She told Ryan she wrapped shooting for the day, went to dinner with sister Nicky and girlfriends (guess she didn't eat at dinner), attended a charity event hosted by Dave Navarro and had one margarita. She says she left to drive home -- which, she says, was only a few blocks away-- and may have been going a little fast because she was "starving" and just wanted an In-N-Out Burger!

TMZ spoke with Paris as she was driving home from jail, stopping for Parliament Lights cigarettes en route. She says she "regrets it occurred," and adds that she has been up for 24 hours, having shot a music video all day. (TMZ had exclusive access to the music video set and our video will be posted in a few hours.) Paris says she had nothing to eat and no rest the entire day.

TMZ spoke with Lt. Russ Wong, the watch commander on duty at the Hollywood station. He tells TMZ Paris received no special treatment, however he acknowledges he did not hold her at the station for the standard minimum of three hours. Lt. Wong says he released her after an hour and a half because a gaggle of paparazzi appeared at the station and posed a significant traffic hazard which he needed to abate. Lt. Wong says it's SOP to release a first-time DUI suspect without bail if a responsible party is there to drive them home -- Elliot Mintz was that party.

Driving under the influence is a misdemeanor. If convicted, the defendant will not be jailed, will be given three months' probation, and will be ordered to enter an alcohol program and will have his or her license restricted for 90 days.

Working too hard and hungry ? Is that anything like Lindsay Lohan's "exhaustion" ? God, I'm tired of all of these interchangeable halfwits.

Celebrity Translator - Mintz-ing Words

We all know that understanding the strange and unusual language of celebrities can be quite difficult, but translating the words of the publicists they pay to speak for them can be downright mind-boggling, especially when that flack is the Larry Bird of Lies, Elliot Mintz. The poor soul given the charge of trying to somehow convince us that Paris Hilton has redeeming human qualities, Mr. Mintz is a master of verbal trickery and misdirection, especially when his client gets herself arrested Gibson-stizz. Luckily, our trusty Celebrity Translator is up to the challenge of cracking “the Da Mintzi Code”.

What Mintz Said: “She’s absolutely fine”.
What Mintz Meant: “She’s Paris f*cking Hilton. Do you think a pansy-ass drinking-and-driving charge could possible faze a person who is primarily known for starring in Internet porn, drunkenly stumbling in and out of nightclubs on camera, and regularly exploiting herself in any and all other ways that might land her on the pages of another magazine? Hell, this is GOOD press.”

What Mintz Said: “She was driving home from a charity event.”
What Mintz Meant: “She was driving home from an event at which she could do the one thing it is she’s actually capable of doing: having her picture taken and drinking free booze while having her picture taken and drinking free booze.”

What Mintz Said: “She had one drink, a margarita”
What Mintz Meant: “She was pretty f*cked up.”

What Mintz Said: “She didn’t appear in the least bit to be intoxicated.”
What Mintz Meant: “Okay, REALLY f*cked up.”

Paris is going to Jail

For 45 days for driving with a suspended licsence. Sucks for her.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/05/04/paris.hilton.ap/index.html

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- A judge sentenced Paris Hilton to 45 days in jail Friday for violating her probation, putting the brakes on the hotel heiress's famous high life.

Hilton, who parlayed her name and relentless partying into worldwide notoriety, must go to jail on June 5 and she will not be allowed any work release, furloughs, use of an alternative jail or any electronic monitoring in lieu of jail, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ruled after a hearing.

The judge ruled that she was in violation of the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. (Watch a subdued Paris Hilton arrive for the hearing Video)

"I'm very sorry, and from now on I'm going to pay complete attention to everything. I'm sorry, and I did not do it on purpose at all," she told the judge before he announced the sentence.

She was then ordered to report to a women's jail in suburban Lynwood on the set date or face 90 days behind bars.

As a city prosecutor said during closing arguments that Hilton deserved jail time, Hilton's mother, Kathy, laughed. When the judge ruled, Kathy Hilton then blurted out: "May I have your autograph?"

So I guess this will start a new trend for celebrities. The pavarottis will still follow her in jail.

Serves her sooooo right.
How dare she think she is above the law, thinking she was allowed to drive after she was busted. So she got caught twice driving on a suspended licence, how many times was she driving and not caught?
Sadly, with her money and family connections, I am thinking (but hope I am wrong) she will get out of prison, some how.
