MERGED ----> Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

There must be something wrong with me, because other than two or three songs, I really don't like it. :|

After another week and a half of digesting it, I think this is my favorite Modest Mouse album now over Moon & Antartica and Lonesome Crowded West.

Gotta agree with you IMP. This album is unbelievably strong. Not a single weak spot on the whole damn disc.

Not to mention is rocks my face off.

Johnny Marr FTW.

I wish I could see what the rest of you guys are seeing in this album. For me, it doesn't even come close to the aching desperation felt in The Lonesome Crowded West and The Moon And Antarctica. Not even close. Where's the band that wrote this?

Well all's not well
But I'm told that it'll all be quite nice
You'll be drowned in boots like mafia
But your feet will still float like Christ's

Well I'll be damned
They were right
I'm drowning upside down
My feet afloat like Christ's

I'm in heaven
Trying to figure out which stack
They're going to stuff us atheists into
When Peter and his monkey laugh

And I laugh with them
I'm not sure what at
They point us in
We'll keep you in the back
Polishing halos, baking manna and gas

Well some guy comes in looking a bit like everyone I ever seen
He moves just like crisco disco
Breath 100% Listerine
He says looking at something else
But directing everything to me
"Any time anyone gets on their knees to pray
Well it makes my telephone ring"

And I'll be damned
He said "You were right,
No-one's running this whole thing."
He had a theory too
He said that God takes care of himself
God takes care of himself
And you of you
He said that God takes care of himself
God takes care of himself
And you of you
He said that God takes care of himself
God takes care of himself
And you of you

I mean, sure, the music's cool...(that bass line in Education owns!) But that's not the reason why I got into the band in the first place. Oh well.

Apparently there's a special edition coming out tomorrow too, much like Neon Bible had.

I can't find anything anywhere about what makes this supposed special edition so, well, special. Any ideas?

I love the fact that they're coming here the same night I've got second row tickets to see Damien Rice.

Think I'll stick with Damo that night.

I may drive up to Rochester to see them, if I can find a friend to drag along. I wasn't crazy about them the last time I saw them, but I'm really liking the new album, and I'd love to hear how Johnny Marr affects their live show.

my brother won tickets to a small show they had here in Portland recently, so got to see them on the spur of the moment. He likes the band, but not a huge fan. He said the show was awesome, he really enjoyed it. Hope the rest of the shows don't disappoint!

Anyone else hear Unforgettable Fire era U2 at the beginning of Invisible?

Anyways, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank is really growing on me.
Starting to like it from beginning to end.

Edit: It sounds exactly like the beginning to Indian Summer Sky

I really love this disc... never took many listens to suck me in either.

Loving Spitting Venom.

I kind of expected more chiming/Smithy style guitar on it (with the Addition of Marr)... but it's very classic Modest Mouse sounding.

Modest Mouse

I love the new songs Dashboard and We've Got everything..Im so happy Johnny Marr joined them..

Im seeing them twice in August...once Aug 15th in Columbus Ohio with my mum and then Aug 19 (my bday) in Philly PA with my best friend!!
