Jewel was interviewed last week on NPR and when asked about her sudden 180, she said that she is the product of Sony Records and it's her job to produce the music they want. Right now she's focusing on her job, which is making the music that the her label wants, and she'll be a "real artist" during her free time.

So like skeek said, i think she may be satirizing her position a little.

You got something that you want me to sell
Sell your sin. Just cash in.
You got something that you want me to tell
You'll love me. Wait and see.

he actually wrote a worse rhyme. he somehow (without joking) had the balls to connect sky, fly and high in elevation.

cheese and sneeze is probably less embarassing.

i have complete respect for someone who completely destroys their imagine in the search of something new. the mainstream public (aka, u2 fans) demand their favorite artists to put out the most unimaginative bile all so that they can hum a simple tune as they walk down the street.

im really glad shes doing this.

Hmm.

Yeah, that video of hers, according to the news bit on VH1, is supposed to be poking fun at the music industry or something along that line.

Still curious as to how dressing in certain clothing is "skanky".

!!!!

Uh...that would be...disturbing...on so many levels...

Bad images in head now...out, out, I say!

And I don't think the rhyme in "Elevation" is that stupid...

But yeah, Jewel is just retarded.
I like Jewel's old stuff. Pieces Of You had great songs on there.

Her latest stuff, though...eh.

As for the poetry...how...interesting.

How could she have written such cool lyrics on her Pieces Of You album and then written poetry like that?

well, that must because you dont have a proper perspective. anyone who posted the lyrics to so cruel and less than 10 years later wrote the travesty that is "i and i, in the sky, i feel like i can fly, so high" needs to lay off the gange for a while and focus on writing something a bit more creative.

IMO "Elevation" was U2's attempt at a fun dumb rocking song and doesn't deserve much scrutiny anyway.

On the other hand, "love is a screaming flower" is IMO one of the stupidest lyrics Bono came up with for a song that doesn't deliberately try to be dumb.

yes, that is your opinion alright.

anyone who can dismiss elevation as just a "dumb rocking song that doesnt deserve scrutiny" while claiming that the lyric "love is a screaming flower" is stupid really needs to reconsider what theyre talking about. and yes, that is indeed my opinion.

i think "love is a screaming flower" is a bit on the poetic side, i never really dismissed it as dumb. elevation is just a rock song, nothing more.

jewel should just learn how to balance commercialism and real artistry. U2 did it very well with the joshua tree.. on one hand you have bullet the blue sky, then you have with or without you, a song that earned them mass commercial appeal and probably was played at every prom that year.
