this makes me very very sad. He is my father's favorite singer. My father has always stated that when he dies he wants Georgia on My Mind sung by Ray Charles played at his funeral.

Whenever I hear Ray Charles I think of my dad.

RIP Ray Charles. Thank you for making such beautiful and soulful music. Georgia will forever miss you.

This is pretty sad.

When I thought of Ray Charles, I instantly would think of him in The Blues Brothers movie for some reason. He definitely had a lot of great songs and TONS of talent.

"...those happy hours
that we once knew
though long ago, still make me blue
they say that time, heals a broken heart
but time's stood still, since we've been apart.."

I remember being so soothed by his voice and taking my pocket money and buying my father a Ray Charles record....loooong time ago now. He was a good musician and a good soul and he will be missed. RIP beautiful one

My classic rock station played a few of his songs tonight on my way home from work.

What a sad day.

Good night, Mr. Charles.
May your eyes be opened, to see again, some of the beautiful times your songs created.

Ray Charles dies

Legendary Musician Ray Charles Dies at 73
Legendary Grammy-winning singer Ray Charles, whose gospel and blues-tinged music touched generations of music lovers and pervaded a number of films, died Thursday at his Beverly Hills home after a long battle with liver disease; he was 73. Blind by the age of 7, Charles's musical gifts transcended genres, as he went from country to jazz to blues to gospel with agility and left his mark on each. Ballads like "Georgia on My Mind," R&B hits like "Hit the Road Jack" and his iconic interpretation of "America the Beautiful" were just a few of the hits that won him 12 Grammy Awards, nine of which he received between 1960 and 1966. Appearing on innumerable TV specials (which earned him three Emmy nominations), Charles's best-known screen appearance was his show-stopping turn in The Blues Brothers. A biopic about Charles, entitled Ray, is slated for release later this year starring Jamie Foxx and Regina King. --Prepared by IMDb staff

Wow. That was unexpected. RIP Ray Charles.

Such a cool, beyond talented and lovely person. He will be missed.

Was such a pity to hear about it on the radio today.
