Geico cavemen to get own TV show?

I kind of like the commercials so I think this show would be kind of funny. I don't think it would last long though.

Geico cavemen could star in TV series

NEW YORK (AP) -- Those Geico "cavemen" shouldn't be so upset after all -- they may get their own television series.

ABC said Friday it had ordered a pilot for a comedy, tentatively titled "Cavemen," that features the characters used in a series of ads by the insurance company.

In the ads, cavemen appear insulted by a Geico pitchman's claim that the company's Web site is so easy to use that "even a caveman can do it."

The potential series, one of 14 pilots that will be produced by Touchstone Television this spring, features the cavemen as they "struggle with prejudice on a daily basis as they strive to live the lives of normal thirty-somethings in 2007 Atlanta."

It's unusual for characters from an advertising campaign to move into shows of their own, but not unprecedented. The CBS comedy "Baby Bob" featured a talking baby that had been used in several advertisements, according to Daily Variety.

The advertising copywriter who helped create the "cavemen" ads is writing the pilot, the studio said.

A pilot order is no guarantee a show will make it on the air; in fact, the majority of pilots don't make it that far.

It could be funny. too bad Phil Hartman is dead, or else he could cameo as Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer.

I miss Phil. :(

Remember one the of the first caveman commercials when the guy takes the two cavemen to a restaurant? One of the cavemen looked a lot like Val Kilmer. I laugh my ass off everytime I see that one because all I see is Val Kilmer as a caveman. If they want this show to last a few episodes, they should get Val. Otherwise, this show will get cancelled really fast.

maybe it's just me, but i think these commercials are incredibly unfunny. i don't know what's worse, these or their gecko commercials. (which, geez, haven't they been milking that for like 10 years now?)

oh well

First Episode:
Captain Caveman stops by and asks the other cavemen who their agent is? Turns out Hanna-Barbara was fucking him out of cartoon royalties.

The only good thing about any of these commercials was the use of Royksopp's "Remind Me" in one of them...

omg, THANK YOU! I generally DVR shows and then fast forward the commercials, but I'll stop to watch the caveman commercial just for this song. Now I know who sings it.

Actually, I had the same thought. :silent: He does sorta resemble Val Kilmer. Weird.

No it's not just you. I've thought the same thing since the first Geico gecko ad and through these caveman ads. Just don't get the "message" the advertisers are trying to make. Advertising is a tough world.....you either make it or bomb. Geico has bombed.

Geico Cavemen

I wouldn't normally post about commercials here, but these deserve it. In a time when most commercials are either so stupid they're offensive, insulting to one's intelligence, or so convoluted that you can't even figure out what the hell they're advertising, the Geico Cavemen commercials are a collective diamond in the rough. They are funny and insightful. The actors who play the cavemen are obviously gifted in terms of comedic timing.

For those who are unfamiliar....the premise is that a group of cavemen living in modern times are offended by Geico's tagline 'It's so easy a caveman could do it.' One ad features a Geico exec attempting to apologize to two cavemen over dinner in a fancy restaurant. Another features a caveman passing a Geico billboard in an airport with the offensive tagline on it and staring at it in disbelief before calling another cavemen via cell phone to share the news. There are a few that deal with one of the cavemen in therapy complaining about the 'existential meltdown' brought on by the offensive tagline. Yet another deals with one caveman who actually uses Geico, who is thought of as a disloyal traitor by the other cavemen. On and on and on.

Find them on YouTube.

Believe it or not, a sitcom spin-off is slated for ABC this fall. Probably a bad idea. But the commercials are great.

Appreciate them.

something I heard about these commercials was that the Ad agency that came up with them is a real small mom and pop agency located somewhere in the south. From what I heard they initially approached a real big ad agency (name escapes me right now) and pitched the idea but got turned down. Not sure what happened after that. Either they went directly to Geico with the idea and became their Ad agency or what.. I know the name of the Ad Agency is The Martin Agency. Either way they are big time now..

Does the same agency do all their spots? I agree the cavemen are funny, and though he's become tedious at this point I initially liked the gecko also. They also had a spot where 2 squirrels ran out and caused a car to swerve, and then started hi-fiving each other, that one always cracked me up.
