BRMC Howl tour

I caught their DC show last night at the 930 club, good god these guys are pros. Whoever it was that started a thread lamenting some bands lack of a "spiritual experience" needs to check this band out when they come to your town. The new stuff had soul and the older stuff rocked and they pulled it all off magnificently. At $15 it was easily the best live music value I've had in a long time.

I wonder if some of their long time reverb-addict fans are staying away due to the gospel elements, it didn't sell out and I had no problem getting as close to the stage as I wanted. Maybe it was the fact that they came to town about six months ago.

Anyone else seen them or plan to see them on this tour?

i saw them about a year or so ago, i guess. they came back to the same club, and i was really hoping i could go (my memory of the other show is kind of impaired by the fact that i spent most of their set looking for my keys. i lost them during one of the opening band's sets), but it either happened already and i had to work, or it's going to happen soon and i have to work. work sucks.

I've been a fan since the beginning and think Howl is the bees knees. It makes me cry it's so beautiful. I've seen the tour twice now, including the NYC show this past Saturday. Even managed to meet the guys last fall - very sweet.

You're absolutely right - they are pros. Why they aren't huge is beyond me. This is one band I could see once a week and never ever tire of. Just fantastic.

I saw them in a small club 2 years ago, and they did impress. I was a big fan of their first album. I got into it when I was abroad in Rome in '02, and have been a fan ever since.

I def. think you all should see them now

Argh! I knew I should have made the trip to see them when they were in Minneapolis! I hate living in the middle of nowhere and having to drive two or three hours to see bands I actually care about.

brmc put on a great show (and 930 in dc is a great place to see a show). i saw them in chapel hill 3 years ago and it was most excellent. i don't think they get the popularity they deserve either, though it is nice to see such an awesome band up close in a small club.

i couldn't agree more!
saw them here in pittsburgh on valentine's day, and boy do they kick ass. they took a few of the 'howl' tunes on a helluva ride, delivered the rest with sweetness and passion.
yep, they're pros. should be the standard bands are measured by - solid songs, solid structures, good words, great performers, great players. really no negatives. one of the greats...

Any other band that I know of that would try to pull off a live show like that, much less an album like Howl, would look like a bunch of posers.

I rented the music documentary Dig for a second time last weekend because I could barely remember what Peters' role was in the Brian Jonestown Massacre (he only has like two speaking lines in the movie). Although the movie gives the false impression that he was in the band longer than he really was, he sure did pay his rock n roll dues there.

I should have gone when I had the chance a couple of weeks ago. A friend's cousin is in the band (I have no idea which one he is) and apparently I could have hung out on the tour bus with rock stars. Hopefully I can hang out on the bus with rock stars later this spring, lol.

I saw them in Austin in October and they're coming back with Elefant in March. Already got my ticket, I've been a fan since their first LP. They are brilliant live and Howl is extremely underrated. Elefant is great too

Oh god - you should have! I've met them and they are so nice! Peter and Robert are very  in person too.

I know. It was free, included backstage passes, and I just couldn't. It meant driving to Denver twice in 2 weeks (6 hours from here) since I'm going tomorrow for Sigur Ros, and I ended up being sick that weekend anyway. My friend said the show was a little rocky being the first of the tour but that I would have enjoyed hanging out on the tour bus (duh!). He said they're coming back this way in the spring so I'm definitely going to go then. It's funny, I had never even listened to them although I knew who they were, and then my friend said his cousin was in this great band "that you've probably never heard of called BRMC" and I was like

Which band member has a famous father and changed his name because of that? I think that's my friend's cousin.

Awesome! Can't wait to download for my friend-with-the-cousin-in-the-band. He has dial up and wouldn't be able to get this.

It's probably Robert Turner who just changed his name back/to Robert Levon Been.

Oh god. I would die to hang out on their tour bus. They're the neatest guys and amazing musicians. I really honestly admire them so so so much. And Peter.

So I guess this was a really bad call on my part, huh? :banghead: I tend not to take advantage of "meeting the band" when I have the opportunity because I am uncomfortable with the whole backstage celeb scene but these guys do seem nice (my friend is so sweet and shy). I had a friend who was touring with Bob Dylan's opening band years ago and he left me a ticket and backstage pass at Will Call and I refused to go backstage because I was scared of Dylan. :reject:

Wanted to show this off even though y'all won't be able to see most of it....
At the Austin concert at the Parish in Octoer I was in the very front and when Robert Levon Been did a guitar solo he went out to the front of the stage and put his foot on the amp where I was resting my hand. He was stepping on my hand while I was filming with my right hand. Very very cool

I don't blame you for being uncomfortable. BRMC are still very "indie" or whatever enough to not have that sort of Velvet Revolver-ish celeb scene vibe back there. They're just normal dudes who are "for real" and extremely talented. Backstage can be very very weird - but afterparties... now those are always cool :)

OK.. I'm going to post this in the hopes no one picks on me in the picture... but just to share one of the coolest moments in my life...

Is that a recent pic HelloAngel? My first reaction when Peter took the stage was "who's this guy?" I was expecting to see Peter sporting the rats nest hairdo you usually see him in, not this slick, combed back look.

You look mighy fine there yourself, HelloAngel. I can see why you would have no problem getting backstage access to rock stars, apparently without a backstage pass or press credentials. :eyebrow:

Or maybe you just covered it up with your hair or put it behind your back so it wouldn't get in the picture.

During the latest (Howl) phase for BRMC, Peter has alternately slicked his hair back. This is a picture from 9/2005 at an in-store they did here in NYC. They had been doing a signing, but I managed it strike up a convo with Peter and Robert. They were very sweet, and so I went in for the kill and asked to take a picture. :) He seems to slick his hair back every other tour date, but don't quote me on that.

As for me professionally, I do have press credentials because of my work with Interference. But as for backstage adventures, that was based on former employment situations. I'm no groupie, believe me :) I've just gotten lucky chances to meet people, that's all.

I know you're not a groupie, in case it wasn't obvious I did make that comment in jest.:)
