Best of 2003 (so far)

At the halfway point in this fine year of 03, what in your opinion are the best albums that were released this year so far....

heres my list, in no particular order

Radiohead- HTTT
Grandaddy- Sumday
Jayhawks- Rainy day music
Postal Service- Give up
Cat Power- you are free
Uncle Tupelo reissues
Pinback- Offcell
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists- Hearts of Oak
The Black Keys- thickfreakness

with apologies to Blur and The White Stripes....:|

MANITOBA - Up in Flames
PREFUSE 73 - One Word Extinguisher
NEW PORNOGRAPHERS - Electric Version
!!! - Me And Guilliani Down by the School Yard
STARLIGHT MINTS - Built on Squares
BAND OF BEES - Sunshine Hit Me
WHITE STRIPES - Elephant

in no particular order, of course

dropkick murphys--blackout
the tossers--purgatory
live--birds of prey
afi--sing the sorrow
introspect--(self-titled)
radiohead--HTTT
blur--think tank
death by stereo--into the valley of death

and i'd put punk-o-rama 8 on the list cos it's one kickass compliation

hi nodisk

well... by far 1 radiohead httt

i also like white stripes elephant and flaming lips fight test ep a lot.

good call on Manitoba!!!

I thought I was the only one who was enjoying Up in Flames!

so yeh

Manitoba - Up in Flames
Postal Service - Give Up
Radiohead - HTTT
Grandaddy - Sumday

to be honest, nothing else has really caught my attention.
Cat Power's is alright, but I think will go under by the end of the year. The New Pornographers needs more digesting.
The New Starflyer 59 is pretty good

My top 3 so far this year are:

Fountains of Wayne - Welcome Interstate Managers
White Stripes - Elephant
Jayhawks - Rainy Day Music

Dissapointed with Radiohead, and just started listening to Starlight Mints which I like a lot.

I think that...

Super Furry Animals - Phantom Power... (Not yet released)
Radiohead - Hail To The Thief
The White Stripes - Elephant

...

Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
Placebo - Sleeping with Ghosts

Lucinda Williams - World without Tears (I hear it's really good, though I don't own it)

Strato Edge... great avatar, I like it

Yeah Yeah Yeah's - Fever To Tell... maybe
AFI - Sing The Sorrow

Here are the 2003 cd's I've personally enjoyed the most:

Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
AFI - Sing the Sorrow
Zwan - Mary Star of the Sea
Grandaddy - Sumday
White Stripes - Elephant
Metallica - St. Anger

Mary Star of the Sea, Zwan
Evolve, Ani di Franco
Diamonds on the Inside, Ben Harper

and of course, I add my voice to the chorus that cries out

Elephant, the White Stripes

That song "There's No Home for You Here" has gotten me through some tough moments lately.

I feel so out of it, I'm trying to remember what came out this year and what came out last. Anyway, two that for sure came out this year (and I think even on the same day) that are so great are Madonna's American Life and Daniel Lanois' Shine. Just totally fabulous although Madonna's does floor me somewhat more than Danny's does!

Pax's list aint half bad.

My additional choices would be

Dirty Three - She Has No Strings Apollo
The Go Betweens - Bright Yellow Bright Orange
Spearhead - Everyone Deserves Music

Honourable mention to Blur for making the best of a messy recording process.

Ok a couple more I just picked up.
The new one by Taxiride is very good. And the new Nada Surf called Let Go. All I can say about that one is WOW. Really Really good.

yeah! I forgot it
into the -traditional- "Pop" music I like:

Madonna - American Life
Robbie Williams - Escapology

Radiohead - "Hail To The Theif"

The album is just brilliant! No doubt the best so far...

this album has only got 4 really good songs, covering up a few filler songs

2+2 = 5
there there
sail us to the moon
a wolf from the door - arguably one of their best closing tracks

otherwise a lot of the other songs on the album do nothing

namely the incredibly awful - We Suck Young Blood, sounds like a demented warped version of a coldplay singalong song to the crowd

and Where i end up and where you begin sounds too much like a U2 song
