Let's hear it for the big man!!

Ok his latest album wasnt much to write home about, but obviously Bat Out Of Hell is a classic album. 'For Cryin' Out Loud' being my fave.
A couple of dodgy albums in the 80's too, but with at least 1 or 2 good tracks on them, like 'Midnight At The Lost And Found' and 'Modern Girl'.

My fave album is probably 'Welcome To The Neighbourhood', with songs like 'Not A Dry Eye In The House' / 'Original Sin' / 'I'd Lie For You (And That's The Truth)' / 'Left In The Dark' and a great cover of Tom Waits' 'Martha'.

Keep rockin Meat!

Pretty much everything Jim Steinman wrote for Meatloaf was epic

everything else was more  than  although there are a few exceptions :
Midnight At The Lost And Found, and Modern Girl both

Great thread Aardvark..

Meatloaf = The coolest name in rock and quite a few outstanding albums.

Heaven can wait, Paradise by the dashboard light, i´d lie for you ( and thats the truth ), bat out of hell, Rock and roll dreams come through, I´d do anything for love ( but i wont do that )

The list goes on.. Meatloaf

ROCK 'N' ROLL DREAMS COME THROUGH!
Shit lyrics, of course, but still great. It's got a very strong build up and some fine emotive piano.

The presence of "I cherish your love, I wanna show you how to use it" makes up for it's other deficiencies. Fantastic song!

Dead Ringer For Love it great in all its silliness.

Lovin' You's A Dirty Job (But Someone's Gotta Do It) - hehehehee

Two Out of Three Ain't Bad rocks!!!!

True Meatloaf story: When i used to manage a shoe shop I remember this woman copming in looking for a decent pair of sandals to wear to Meatloaf's 2003 concert. She told me when she was going and she was really excited.

She was at that concert when M had his heart attack. :( (Don't you dare blame the shoes!!!)

I grew up listening to Meatloaf, because everyone in my family (particularly my grandparents) are big Meatloaf fans. I acknowledge his greatness as a guilty pleasure, but I think it's gonna have to be at least ten years before I can hear a Meatloaf song and genuinely like it. :|

Edward Norton

Nearly died laughing when i heard this one for the first time:

Her: I gotta know right now!
Do you love me?
Will you love me forever?
Do you need me?
Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life?
Will you take me away and will you make me your wife?
I gotta know right now!
Before we go any further
Do you love me?
And will you love me forever???

Him: Let me sleep on it
Baby, baby let me sleep on it
Let me sleep on it
And I'll give you my answer in the morning
Let me sleep on it!

Her:
Will you love me forever?

Him:
Let me sleep on it!

Meatloaf gives her the only real rock and roll reply "Let me sleep on it, and i´ll give my answer in the morning"

Pure meat  Gotta love such silly lyrics.

I now have to download Rock'n'Roll Dreams Come Through. I've had it in my head for 4 days for no good reason, and this thread has made it take root.

LMAO! It is listed in Wanadoo UK Music as:
Loaf, Meat. Which looks very silly. :lmao::giggle:

Ah finally! Got it! Bliss.

"And the angels had guitars even before they had wings
If you hold onto a chorus you can get through the night"

"You're never alone cause you can put on the phones
And let the drummer tell your heart what to do..."

Nonsense. Brilliant.

EDIT: Meatloaf honoring the god of rock

You can't run away forever
But there's nothing wrong with getting a good head start
You want to shut out the night, you want to shut down the sun
You want to shut away the pieces of a broken heart

Think of how we'd lay down together
We'd be listening to the radio so loud and so strong
Every golden nugget coming like a gift of the gods
Someone must have blessed us when he gave us those songs

I treasure your love, I never want to lose it
You've been through the fires of hell
And I know you've got the ashes to prove it
I treasure your love, I want to show you how to use it
You've been through a lot of pain in the dirt
And I know you've got the scars to prove it

Remember everything that I told you, and I'm telling you again that it's true
When you're alone and afraid, and you're completely amazed
To find there's nothing anybody can do
Keep on believing, and you'll discover baby

There's always something magic, there's always something new
And when you really really need it the most
That's when rock and roll dreams come through
The beat is yours forever, the beat is always true
And when you really really need it the most
That's when rock and roll dreams come through for you

Once upon a time was a backbeat, once upon a time all the chords came to life
And the angels had guitars even before they had wings
If you hold onto a chorus you can get through the night

Remember everything that I told you, and I'm telling you again that it's true
You're never alone cause you can put on the phones
And let the drummer tell your heart what to do
Keep on believing, and you'll discover baby

LOL, yimou . I think you and I may be in the minority with our appreciation of this fine and silly song. :lmao:

Well Sallycinnamon... Its just like Meatloaf sings in the song.

"Keep on believing, and you'll discover baby"

People will discover the greatness of "rock and roll dreams come through" if they believe

"She used her body just like a bandage....she used my body just like a wound"...

LMAO! You've been Meatloafed to death. So to speak.

Bono's shades said:
Meatloaf's music is kind of cheesy, but it's nice, tasty cheddar cheese - not Cheez Whiz or limburger. And the man can sing like crazy.

Couldn't agree more... that's a very good summary, in my opinion.

yimou :(

That song takes me back to '93 or 94', I remember watching those videos from Bat Out Of Hell II on MTV back then. Also remember those videos from the next album Welcome To The Neighbourhood!

:nostalgia: :combust:

Don't know much of his stuff but what I know I like.

Its all coming back to me = Song of the year

Great vocal performance

^
I eternally associate that song with Celine Dion running through long corridors, though! I really like his performance of it with the Norwegian woman (who I should probably know the name of), but I find it semi-comical now. I had no idea that he'd planned to record the song for so long :/

His writer wrote the song intended for Bat out of the hell 2 but didnt make the cut so celine dion asked if it was cool if she could record it.
